You should have made better life choices. I shit you not.

I swear to Christ if me and this pasty fuckin', bushy-bearded, hipster cuck had been face-to-face I'd have knocked his damned teeth out! I mean, seriously just a 3-2 and dropped his ass to the pavement. ]

Is he wrong? You chose to get paid for your hands not your mind- for What you do, not what you know. Labor vs wisdom

And it appears by your desire to affect violence, that bad choices are your specialty.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79508127

Work from home does not need to mean work for someone or be employed. For many it means self employed. If you have knowledge, acumen, and unique command of something, people all over the world are your potential clients.

Work for someone, some company, always a slave.
Do what you love and are good at, in mind and output, from home and for self, find other interested parties who acknowledge your command and desire to pay for your content, instruction, program, or products.

Or do physical labor. For a boss. And be mad at you choices.

The truth to the matter is you choose your job nobody else. (Unless your a slave).
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79507981

no, they pretty much choose you in every case.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 39772036

No, you choose your vocation.

If you are in a service-related job in contact with the public ... well, you chose that. Own up to it. Change it, if you don't like it.

If you took 'women's studies' at your local Uni, then you get what you deserve.

Yes, exactly. Make Better Life Choices and you won't be in a tight spot.

Think Boy, think. Use your noggin for more than a place to fit your balaclava.

Enraged morons.

Re: Work-At-Home Crowd: Tone Deaf To The Rest Of Us.
When the unraveling comes, that dude and those like him will be the first to crumble. Sounds like he is very smug and is good at gaming the system, but when that system starts to break down, there will be no more gaming it. He is one layoff away from needing to be talked down off the ledge.

I know people who have spent their entire lives coddled by these corporate and government systems, where they were financially taken care of to the nth degree for decades. These people still try and squeeze every last nickel out of those systems, the same ones they have milked for 20, 30 and 40 years. They've had a good run, but it could be that the run is just about over.

Some of us have taken the long hard road, sounds like that is the road you're on. That is the road I took, and it has made me a more resilient and God-centered human. You are filling your resiliency reserve tank right now, that dude on Zoom has no such tank. People have too much invested in these human, and in some cases Godless systems.

Here is an example I see all the time: obese people driving a $50,000 vehicle, pulling into a hospital or clinic. Take away any one of legs of their triad (vehicle, healthcare, infrastructure), and their world would collapse.
 Quoting: AggregateThreat

Man, I was a big Burt Reynolds fan as a kid. When ole Burt gave that speech in Deliverence, I figured out pretty quick. Shit can hit the fan anytime and we're back to Planet of the Apes.

Plus, I had all these cool old family members who survived the Depression and WWII. They taught me a man with one skill mastered can rest easy. A man that has two can sleep sound. A man that has three has found the meaning of life.

Learning, whether it's self-taught, from a Vo-Tech or college, is power. It means when you're boring job warming a coffee mug as a 'Risk Management VP' gets old, you can go be an electrical tech.

Right now, I'm working ER and working for an electrical contractor playing tool gopher and bending conduit. I am also taking a course I need to apply to Respiratory Therapy skewl.

Ironically, in spite of having a BS in Biochem, an AAS in Paramedic Technology and Fire Science, an AAS in Electronics and Electrical Engineering, a certificate in carpentry and masonry, a certificate in industrial electrical, and a couple of graduate certificates, I have only had a combined A&P and I need human phys plus a couple of other classes.

One of my professors is some ultra-left bimbo with baby-brain as she's a 'new mommy' while extolling the virtues of abortion. I have to tolerate, I need the class by spring. Well, I went and stuck my foot in my mouth and told her fuckin' idiot husband who butted in on our Zoom conversation that some of us who live on Planet Earth don't have the luxury of working from home.

I wonder if he thinks that all paramedics, firefighters, doctors and nurses should’ve made “better life choices”. I hope he never needs one.

I’m part of the “work at home crowd” and was before the plandemic. Obviously not every field is suitable for it but that doesn’t mean they are bad fields that were bad choices. Sensible people know that, this prof and her husband are idiots.

if its a work at home job that means it can be outsourced.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79483559

Not true.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73138097

Actually yes it is true.

I've been working from home since the hoax began in March. I actually love it (not my job, just the WFH part). I typically log in around 8:30 AM, check my email, go take a shower, prepare a nice breakfast and settle back into work with my cup of coffee (all on the clock). I get paid about $60k/year which is enough for me as a single guy with no children (gf would have it another way if she could but I'm not stoopid).

What's the stop my company from outsourcing my job to a d0thead in India at a fraction of my salary? The training would be the hardest part as I do a lot of different task and I'm actually quite good at it..but with the right training, anyone with an IQ around 100 can do what I do.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75991465

Exactly and its going to happen
 Quoting: Reluctant explosion

Yep
Like I said, as long as capitalists are in control, this nation is doomed. If someone in India can do your job cheaper, you are overpaid. This is what is going to happen.

Someone prove me wrong.

I expect this country to descend further until it rivals India and or countries in Central America.

The people in the stock market demand no less and want a huge return on their global investments.

Truth is for a philosophy class. Here are the facts. The majority of jobs that are currently being done from home are so easily outsourced that mass layoffs have and will worsen in the years ahead.

The corporate overlords of the 'soft-skills' crowds have seen the blood in the water and are beginning to circle. If Jenny from HR can do her job in her PJs with webcam and Zoom then Jugdesh in Banglore can do it and for two dollars a day.

Only a fool would believe 'soft-skills' are the future. That's like saying, "be a professional Youtuber." It's unsustainable.

No. No it is NOT good. It dehumanizes people. They don’t have face to face contact. This is why that douchebag said what he said to him. He wasn’t there, in person, watching his body language and seeing his intimidation factor, etc.

We evolved to be in human contact and only act appropriately when we are in person, face to face, with others. The more dehumanized we get the more we will not care about what happens to others. The easier it is for us to turn a blind eye.

We will become an evil people.

No it's not unless you want to starve to death, have no electricity nor running water nor be able to buy anything you need because people never leave their homes to farm or manufacture things and have things delivered to stores and homes. There is nothing nice about living the life of a bubble boy or being under house arrest the rest of your life. The economy is not a magical horn of plenty. if people are not in workplaces making stuff, then THERE IS NO STUFF.

Same with services like the OP is delivering out in the field.. if people are not out in the field fixing stuff, then there is no fixed stuff. it cannot be achieved by sitting at home and daydreaming about it.

today it feels like theres probably a billion humans trying to compete with eachother from home in the field of who can make the prettiest picture, or snazziest video... And there can only be a handful of winners at that game, and guess what its not going to be europeans or westerners because their living costs are higher, its going to be mr hussain from fucking Bangladesh or some shit who can charge 50 cents an hr.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77562423

Exactly
The winners in global capitalism are going to be your third world countries where the population count is high and people live in dorm style buildings like in China all so shareholders and corporate profits are maximized.

The future world is going to be Hell on Earth for everyone unless you are in top percentile.

It will be heavily policed as well to protect the top percent from everyone else.

When it gets that bad, I hope everyone has access to suitcase nukes to take out the rich elite.
