Actually yes it is true.

I've been working from home since the hoax began in March. I actually love it (not my job, just the WFH part). I typically log in around 8:30 AM, check my email, go take a shower, prepare a nice breakfast and settle back into work with my cup of coffee (all on the clock). I get paid about $60k/year which is enough for me as a single guy with no children (gf would have it another way if she could but I'm not stoopid).

What's the stop my company from outsourcing my job to a d0thead in India at a fraction of my salary? The training would be the hardest part as I do a lot of different task and I'm actually quite good at it..but with the right training, anyone with an IQ around 100 can do what I do.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75991465

Exactly and its going to happen
 Quoting: Reluctant explosion

Yep
Like I said, as long as capitalists are in control, this nation is doomed. If someone in India can do your job cheaper, you are overpaid. This is what is going to happen.

Someone prove me wrong.

I expect this country to descend further until it rivals India and or countries in Central America.

The people in the stock market demand no less and want a huge return on their global investments.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79500030

We have coprotocracy where the top tier is paid to make money wth no regard to the local economy. Read about Henry Ford, that is the type of capitalism that built the U.S. He innovated ways to use products farmers grew so they could in turn make enough money to buy his products (using soy beans to make dashboards.)

I don’t know what you prefer over capitalism but if you visit a communist or recently communist country you will not want that.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77720182

That type of Capitalism was Nation Centric.
The company and supply chain were all in the USA.
The Ford Company and Supply Chain companies employed American Workers.
The Customers were all American Citizens.
The workers needed to be paid enough to afford the American Made Cars.

The model we have today goes more like this.

An American Corporation uses the blood, sweat and tears of this nation to get big and rich enough to move operations to some slave labor country.

They use labor that have no rights or freedoms and sell back to Americans here so the assholes in upper management and the finance sector can get richer.

Big Difference.

Is he wrong? You chose to get paid for your hands not your mind- for What you do, not what you know. Labor vs wisdom

And it appears by your desire to affect violence, that bad choices are your specialty.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79508127

Work from home does not need to mean work for someone or be employed. For many it means self employed. If you have knowledge, acumen, and unique command of something, people all over the world are your potential clients.

Work for someone, some company, always a slave.
Do what you love and are good at, in mind and output, from home and for self, find other interested parties who acknowledge your command and desire to pay for your content, instruction, program, or products.

Or do physical labor. For a boss. And be mad at you choices.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79508127

Physical labor doesn't necessarily mean you work for someone else. My plumber has his own small business and of course does physical labor because toilets and other plumbing don't fix themselves.
 Quoting: 2hot2handle

Its not hard if you follow a simple strategy with the right coins (stable coins and whatever else you invest in). It doesn't require special knowledge aside from actually learning the technique itself. It provides constant returns whether the market goes up or down, although if the market doesn't move you can't make money. You're ignorant, anyone can do this basically for free if you've read the book about it.

With this strategy you never exit into fiat but instead into "stablecoins" which prevents you from taking losses when the market dips. You then use those stable coins to buy up assets at low price, so when the market moves up again you can sell for more stable coins. Rinse and repeat and you've got your own profit engine. But you're right on one thing, if you haven't read the book about how to do it, you WILL lose money.

Weird type of sarcasm you have, as everything anon said is truth.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79508127

Truth is for a philosophy class. Here are the facts. The majority of jobs that are currently being done from home are so easily outsourced that mass layoffs have and will worsen in the years ahead.

The corporate overlords of the 'soft-skills' crowds have seen the blood in the water and are beginning to circle. If Jenny from HR can do her job in her PJs with webcam and Zoom then Jugdesh in Banglore can do it and for two dollars a day.

Only a fool would believe 'soft-skills' are the future. That's like saying, "be a professional Youtuber." It's unsustainable.

If you have something unique to offer or teach, it has value to others interested in the same, regardless of location. If you don't, which has been a life choice and path, you will always be in the mindset of employee, not sole creator.
You do you.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79508127

I have created lots of things timber frame homes, barns, and crops. I have even written a couple of books. I can teach emergency pre-hospital medicine, biology, chemistry, woodworking, carpentry, and electronics. I speak two languages fluently. Two others enough to get by.

What the fuck can you create? Youtube content? Tweets? AC troll posts? I bet you're a non-American working in some shithole like Bangalore, Jakarta, or Manila.
 Quoting: SpacePiratePorthos

Think as you wish. People pay me for what I know and offer from it. Not what I "do and build". By choice. When you sell of yourself nothing other than time and labor, your situation will as an employee will never change.

If you are good at anything you can consult for a fee. If not, then you simply aren't as good as you thought.

No, you choose your vocation.

If you are in a service-related job in contact with the public ... well, you chose that. Own up to it. Change it, if you don't like it.

If you took 'women's studies' at your local Uni, then you get what you deserve.

Yes, exactly. Make Better Life Choices and you won't be in a tight spot.

Think Boy, think. Use your noggin for more than a place to fit your balaclava.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22255432

Not everyone can go to college. The United States use to have many manufacturing jobs that paid livable wages and didn't make people work like machines and work mega overtime like the few that are left do now. This was before corporations got greedy and outsourced it all. Many of us became blue collar workers, made a good living and had nice lives.

The elite are now looting the economies of the world. They bleed one country dry just to move on to the next like parasites. After the country is mostly bled dry, they replace manufacturing jobs with service jobs. After COVID, many of the service jobs are no longer there so they replace those with more handouts. When they finish bleeding the middle class dry, game over. You people arrogant enough to bash others because their jobs have been outsourced and they are too old or don't have the money to start over will have your day of reckoning because many of you are too pussified to do what you have to do when your coddled little lives outsourced or the money runs dry for your handouts.

Re: Work-At-Home Crowd: Tone Deaf To The Rest Of Us.
Hate tp say it. But whether you like it or not, remote working is a big part of the future. The whole idea that a company has to rent out 20,000 square feet of office space all over the place so people can congregate in one location will be seen as an unnecessary business cost. Businesses can drop the office space, and even pay people a little less and everyone comes out ahead financially. Moreover, many of the office spaces are in urban areas... businesses are already finding business insurance rates going up 300% because of being in a protest / riot prone city. People are going to enjoy living wherever they wish while working remotely. This will drive faster bandwidth into more rural areas of the country, increase standards of living as living in rural areas are more cost efficient. It will decrease overhead costs for businesses and allow them to decrease damage risks from "protesters".

On a side note, the mass abandonment of urban centers is about to happen. There will be a crash in the commercial real estate market... and all those things the protesters want will evaporate because there will be zero opportunity in their cities as every business and person has gone somewhere else.

It would be wise to find ways to earn incomes outside of having to go somewhere to do the work. Other than medical or trades or boutique type businesses, people will be working from home or remotely. While your teacher's husband was a bit dickish in his words, he's right. You had a choice, you made a choice to get all the education required to work for someone else for some value they feel you are worth. You made the decision to do something you have to go somewhere else to do. That was your choice. Now, you may not have paid attention to trends or understood the history of our economy in terms of how technology and social events or issues change it, and that would be a reason you chose to do what you did.

You are literally being controlled by foreseeable events and trends and things you have no control over. You have made the decisions to take on a career path you have no control over. Your choice has put you into a situation where you have no power over your income potential, your work conditions, your hours, or anything else. These were your decisions. Decisions to play the rat race game of "get education -> get job" and hope you can make it in life.

Find something immune to everything going on right now. People laughed at video game streamers and YouTubers as not real jobs... yet many are pulling down $20,000 a month easy. So while people going to their jobs making fun of others, those streamers and you tubers are retiring at 40. Why? Because they found a niche they were passionate about and started their own thing... made their own hours, did work for themselves, not someone else.

Figure it out and win, or continue complaining like a liberal about how the world is screwing you. You only have control over yourself, change yourself.... no one else will and, frankly, no one else really cares.

My buddy is an electical contractor and we were fixing the screw ups of another contractor for an old lady who got ripped by this cockwad.

Understand completely.

I was in IT until my body gave out. Everything up to forensics and security, without programming. Certified all to hell. I’m now disabled and can’t work the jobs I used to.

I now work at a hotel at night. I get the same thing from people every night, about my poor life choices, why I’m there.

Because bills. Because disability doesn’t pay enough to live. Because I can’t work an 8-5 at a desk, or be on the road all day everyday thousands of miles a week like I used to.

Fuck those people. Just do what you need to for you.

from a lib, I don’t know how your reading OPs message , but he/she is saying despite having the options to either work at his/her office job, he/she would rather work in something that’s more thrilling than watching paint dry.

The conversation with the professors husband, was as issue because he made an assumption , an ass of himself really, assuming OPs comment about not having the luxury to work from home, Was begging for some kind of mercy, mercy from toiling away at

When in actuality , OP is simply saying, some who are as degreed as he/she is , ( who is qualified and could go into boring office work, but would rather not) , have jobs (because of the nature of the job) it requires a body to be onsite, physically there to Perform work that canT be done virtually , or at home on laptop on zoom, the kind of work OP Does is vital to society. You can take it for granted easily, but when you’re in a situation you’ll thank god that there are people who have genuine knowledgeability and not just a text book fluff head.

To me this professor and husband come of as arrogant full of themselves , and really could be republican or lib,

Hard to say which party affiliation based on that comment . Because as a lib I’ve heard many repubs really stick to that idea of ” pull yourself by your own bootstraps “ and they do so judgingly and freely dish it out very ignorant advice , not realizing how much of an idiot they look

this ones a snotty professor with an asshole husband to match.
They both are fools with that superiority complex ,assuming work behind a laptop is the only work valuing,

GPT-3 can already code when given a simple english sentence.. by the time GPT5 comes out in a couple or so years its going to put all you coders out of work.

Then all that's left is trading cryptocurrencies. Cryptos are real assets, not your phoney fiat funny money. Which means you really own them full stop. Trading them gives you profit. There are books written on the subject.

ive tried trading cryptos on GDAX.. and investing in alt coins on binance...

its hard. you have to have the right mindset and not allow it to take over your life like a gambler. really really hard to keep control over it and think calmly and rationally.. and really really hard to exit and transfer into FIAT before the bubble bursts and you have to wait years again..

yea day trading is not a job for the masses, like i said before.. if people are not in the workplace making STUFF, then there is no stuff. if people are not out there delivering services, there is no services..

Thats not what i said.. what i was getting at was that the emotional aspect is the hard thing to keep under control. Day trading consumed me, i could not even sleep let alone think rationally because of the lack of sleep and the emotional and addictive aspects of it. its exactly the same with gambling..

Not many people can have the right mindset... The theory on how to trade is a piece of cake in comparison.
