Absolutely! The sheer amount of jobs outsourced to Bulgaria from the USA and UK (and many other countries) is staggering - from coders through PAs to telemedicine. "Ability to work night shifts" (because of the 8-hour time difference with the US) is the new buzzword.

These lefties have no idea how the world works or all the things they take for granted are produced.. they just think they are all made via magic pixie dust and we can have a socialist utopia and it will all work out.

No common sense or critical thinking skills whatsoever.

I ask again, have you actually read any of this thread? You obviously are missing a great deal of what has been said. I'm not broke, destitute, or in need of a 'skills upgrade'. I am applying to RRT skewl because I want to help others, not because I need a paycheck.

Leftists tend to work for big media or government or any job paid by taxpayers so they tend to be recession proof and covid proof. Because of that they are just fine with the globalist scamdemic going on forever and social distancing and shutting down the economy because they are not the ones being hurt by all this. They get paid no matter what and are not the ones trying to figure out how to pay their bills since they don't own a private business that's been arbitrarily shut down by the government nor do they do any work that has to be done on site. They can stay home forever writing shit articles on their apple laptops for the New York Times about how we are all in this together and to wear your mask and go bankrupt for the greater good while these leftists sit pretty in their over priced apartments in some trendy neighborhood.

One of my professors is some ultra-left bimbo with baby-brain as she's a 'new mommy' while extolling the virtues of abortion. I have to tolerate, I need the class by spring. Well, I went and stuck my foot in my mouth and told her fuckin' idiot husband who butted in on our Zoom conversation that some of us who live on Planet Earth don't have the luxury of working from home.

His response and this sums up educators: You should have made better life choices. I shit you not.

Sort of a version of liberal Nancy Pelosi and her "let them eat ice cream" attitude. Or her strength in tearing up paper at a State of the Union speech.

Everyone is getting a daily lesson in the true, dark, mean-hearted nature of the left.

Some of the greediest, most conniving, most non-empathetic people around are the so-called Limousine-Liberal left.

Compassion requires honesty, common sense, integrity and ethics in order to exist and thrive.

Liberals generally lack those four crucial traits.

if its a work at home job that means it can be outsourced.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79483559

This 100%. Transcription (medical) was outsourced then offshored years ago followed by legal transcription (insurance claims, witness statements, etc.) and now coding (medical) is outsourced and offshored. All of these jobs were those I did at home. So, yeah, work at home jobs can absolutely be outsourced, and are.
 Quoting: Littlebit Too

Gonna have to second this one. I was a radiology transcriptionist for many years. My hospital sold the whole department to a national company that outsources to India. The reports became unreadable, contradictory, and inaccurate. Fortunately, the radiologists who contracted to the hospital hired me on the spot and I spent the last ten years working at home as a valued employee of a small local company. I'm retired now, thank God.

Twenty years ago, you could make a damn good living transcribing at home. Now it's not only a dying profession, but it pays peanuts. Peanuts cost too much, though, so most places are going to voice recognition, which is far less accurate than Indian transcriptionists.

Ironically, in spite of having a BS in Biochem, an AAS in Paramedic Technology and Fire Science, an AAS in Electronics and Electrical Engineering, a certificate in carpentry and masonry, a certificate in industrial electrical, and a couple of graduate certificates, I have only had a combined A&P and I need human phys plus a couple of other classes.

Truth is for a philosophy class. Here are the facts. The majority of jobs that are currently being done from home are so easily outsourced that mass layoffs have and will worsen in the years ahead.

The corporate overlords of the 'soft-skills' crowds have seen the blood in the water and are beginning to circle. If Jenny from HR can do her job in her PJs with webcam and Zoom then Jugdesh in Banglore can do it and for two dollars a day.

Only a fool would believe 'soft-skills' are the future. That's like saying, "be a professional Youtuber." It's unsustainable.

Think as you wish. People pay me for what I know and offer from it. Not what I "do and build". By choice. When you sell of yourself nothing other than time and labor, your situation will as an employee will never change.

If you are good at anything you can consult for a fee. If not, then you simply aren't as good as you thought.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79508127

You're not really showing much respect for the people who built the computers you're using, who work at the power plants who generate the electricity you're using, who keep the lines maintained, who work at the water plant keeping the water clean and flowing so you can make coffee in the morning, who ship all the boxes of computers to people who work at home so they can make a living at a desk while others are handling materials in a warehouse for them.

Not to mention someone, somewhere, some mystery person you've never met and never will, sewed all the clothes you're wearing and someone runs all the machines that weave and knit the fabrics that went into your jacket and your hoodie your sweats.

Someone does that work for you and you benefit from it and you feel superior to them because you have so much of value to offer, as you say. Try doing it without them, you need all of them, someone has to do that work and I'll tell you one thing, physical work that gets you out on job keeps you sharp and in shape.

But the main thing is that we are living in a time when people are frustrated and need to vent - and so we are taking it out on each other and justifying our precarious existence by putting other people down -

Things didn't used to be like this and GLP didn't used to be this way either.

Maybe we can rise above.

That guy in OPs story should have never said what he said to OP in the Zoom class. He had no business talking like that to his wife's student. It made no sense at all in the context of the situation, really. I guess that guy is a new dad and losing it. But OP is making good life decisions, good choices, not bad ones. No reason for anyone to jump on him at all, and the people piling on this thread to jump all over people who are doing carpentry, plumbing, janitorial, production, sales, warehouse work, shipping, trucking, and other essential services - your attitude toward workers makes you look really shallow and bitter, and not very broadminded or sophisticated.

Understand completely.

I was in IT until my body gave out. Everything up to forensics and security, without programming. Certified all to hell. I’m now disabled and can’t work the jobs I used to.

I now work at a hotel at night. I get the same thing from people every night, about my poor life choices, why I’m there.

Because bills. Because disability doesn’t pay enough to live. Because I can’t work an 8-5 at a desk, or be on the road all day everyday thousands of miles a week like I used to.

Fuck those people. Just do what you need to for you.

There needs to be a purging in this country of these types of people.

Well, it's a new arostocracy. It's people who earn their living by leaching off others. People who create degree programs for jobs that you used to could apprentice or go to a vo-tech!
