Utopian fantasies have long transfixed the human race. Yet today a much rarer fantasy has become popular in the United States. Millions of Americans, the richest people in history, have a death wish. They are the new “Armageddonites,” fundamentalist evangelicals who have moved from forecasting Armageddon to actually trying to bring it about.

Most journalists find it difficult to take seriously that tens of millions of Americans, filled with fantasies of revenge and empowerment, long to leave a world they despise. These Armageddonites believe that they alone will get a quick, free pass when they are “raptured” to paradise, no good deeds necessary, not even a day of judgment. Ironically, they share this utopian fantasy with a group that they often castigate, namely fundamentalist Muslims who believe that dying in battle also means direct access to Heaven. For the Armageddonites, however, there are no waiting virgins, but they do agree with Muslims that there will be “no booze, no bars,” in the words of a popular Gaither Singers song.

Unfortnately a lot of my Christian brethern have bought into the pop culture theory of the Day of the Lord, the parousia. It is our great hope but only after many terrible things have happened, do I long for it? Yes but I take my example from the Lord
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

Yes I believe many hope and pray for his return.
The problem is if things keep up the way they are we who believe will have to suffer some more.
Times will get worse.
Too many now sympathize and appease who the real enemy is thinking if they side with them thinks will turn out better.
Alas when they are getting their head sawed off then you will hear the cry "save me Jesus"...
Too late

How could a grown man, a man blessed with inalienable intellect, born free and well-educated believe in such a thing that is so absurd? That one day a man who has been dead for 2000yrs would suddenly reappear in the sky to save only those who believed in him.

Maybe because it's his house and he only lets in those worthy of his respect.

You have to earn respect it's not a God given right.

And as far as "How could" it's called 'FAITH"

Something that even you and your's in Islam should know about.

He is describing christian-zionism, wwho strive for the unbiblical third temple and support the state of Israel and care not what the word of God says about the endtime beast and the battle against the remnant saints.

Well you asked! For one my friend he is not dead as you say. Now in my inadequate words I shall try to explain. Do you love anyone, a child, a parent or a mate? I'm sure you do as we all do, describe love to me? Its hard to do, does it make sense to love, to trust someone even when they let you down? Intellectually it does not. An example our senses protect us, if we touch something hot we recoil and try our best not to do it again so why do we sometimes knowing ahead of time trust and love someone who may let us down? Love does conquer all, even our intellect, but I ask you not to beleive in a fairy tale. I leave you with a quote from one of the great archaeologists of the 19th century and early 20th cen., Sir William Ramsay, who spent 15 years attempting to undermine Luke's credentials as a historian, and to refute the reliability of the New Testament, finally concluded: "Luke is a historian of the first rank . . . This author should be placed along with the very greatest of historians. "

No one can bring Armageddon about, it is all in God's timing. I believe He has kept mankind from starting a horrible nuclear war many times. He is long-suffering toward us, He wants all to come to salvation. It doesn't matter if some misguided politicians think they can force Armageddon, they cannot. However, Armageddon will most certainly come about. Revelation is the revelation of Jesus Christ, He is most definitely coming to rule and reign over all the earth.

I look forward to that day very much, because I am tired of this sin-sick world. But I know it will be a terrible time just before He comes back, and I do not look forward to the suffering and death that will come to many. I try to reach the lost for Jesus Christ. But His return is our blessed hope, so when it happens it will be in God's timing and it will ultimately be a wonderful thing. Too many are trying to blame the actions of deceitful politicians on true, Bible-believing Christians, and it is wrong.
