I've seen fireballs a few times. This was much more similar to a satellite or other craft. Even ISS is peculiar to anything else you'll see in the night sky, ya know? It looked like the depiction of a dying star in media/movies/videogames. If it were a fireball it was coming directly at me! :memorybanner: |

I'm in Colorado. I looked in the northern sky and saw what looked like a star that became brighter and brighter followed by a collapse to nothingness. That, or it was something coming into our atmosphere that hit the brakes hard and turned around. Quoting: eyeDR3 I've only seen one other occurrence of this in Florida off the gulf coast, a craft came in quickly, traveled parallel for a moment then shot back out into space. Not a satellite. Not a meteorite. Not a star? What did i just see? |

Not a meteorite. Not a star? What did i just see? I saw something very similar two summers ago. I think it is us and I'll tell you why. I live in a fairly rural area, and have a great view of the night sky. In the summer of 2018 I kept seeing a flash out of the corner of my eye, but when I looked I didn't see anything. Then one night I saw what appeared a meteorite entering the atmosphere and it got real bright and then faded out. I saw that a couple of times. Then one night I saw a "meteorite" come in from the South, flare, and then get dim. However I could still see what now appeared just like a satellite moving very high up in a northerly direction, which then stopped and faded out. Kind of weird, and it got even weirder. About 5 minutes later I saw a second "meteorite" come in from the North heading south. Same thing, after getting very bright (flare) it dimmed, but again I watched it very high up heading South. When it got into the area of the sky where the first one disappeared, I saw the object heading south, but then a light (the first one?) blinked on and fell into formation behind the object heading south. I actually thought that the object which came in behind was going to fire on the craft in front because of how aggressively it was moving. But I then watched both objects flying in formation very high up to the south until they disappeared. You are the first person who I have heard describe something similar to what I saw. Because they flew in formation I naturally thought they had to belong to our "Space Force". But who knows. |

I wrote my reply late last night, and now feel "asteroid" might be a better comparison. And yes, these objects look just like an asteroid entering our atmosphere - you know, fast with a bright flare and then dimming out. After I saw this phenomenon several times, and looked intently enough to see the dim "satellite" type object continuing along the original trajectory, I realized that these are not asteroids. |

Then it gets very dim, so dim it disappears from view. It does seem like some sort of craft. Not sure what kind though. |
