Anonymous Coward User ID: 270237 ![]() 11/01/2007 03:24 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I think the 5.6 was overdue. So the state is doing the right thing in trying to get people to stock up on emergency kits/supplies as the quake is fresh in their minds. So I do not think there will be a large quake in near future, but if so I will be in the middle of it. |

Most Californians don't break a sweat on anything less then a 5.5 quake. "above the normal level for a damaging earthquake along the Calaveras and/or Hayward faults within the next several days. However, the overall likelihood of such an event is still low." Is this statement a borderline Oxymoron? So anything ABOVE normal is still Low? |

Sireen User ID: 316770 ![]() 11/01/2007 09:16 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My brother still lives in Cali...Sacramento to be exact. He seems happy. I personally didn't care for Sacramento...too far from the beach. Not that my comment has any bearing on the topic at hand...I do believe Sacrament would be well protected from a big quake. |

Is this statement a borderline Oxymoron? So anything ABOVE normal is still Low? The "normal" probability of a quake occurring within a given 3-day span along a given fault may only be .000001 (or .0001%). So even if something increases the likelihood of a larger quake to, say, .01% - a 100x increase 'above normal" - the probability of it actually happening (1 in 10,000) is still low. |

I would be looking to the Pacific to see if the tide is rising at this point. Anybody listening? ![]() |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 311045 ![]() 11/01/2007 11:57 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | From the little I know about earthquakes I have learned that there needs to be minor quake activity to prevent the big ones from happening too often. If you check out this link [link to www.iris.edu] and see where quake activity has been happening in the last five years - the purple dots, especially in the "ring of fire"; the pacific rim, you will notice that the west coast of the United States has had fewer minor quakes than the rest of the pacific rim. It makes me take stock of the situation and prepare myself, physically, mentally, and socially for any large events that have been predicted by scientists, psychics, and GLP enthusiasts for years. In any event, information is power; do with it as you wish. [link to www.iris.edu] |
