Time to get reacquainted with the Sabbath, Passover, Feast of Unleavened Bread, Feast of Weeks(Pentecost), Feast of Tabernacles, Day of Atonement and their spiritual meanings. Dont follow any extra days or traditions added by Talmud rabbis. You can get together and have fun with God approved holy days. |

If everyday becomes just ordinary, how will we ever live extraordinary lives? What noteworhty person do you know that didnīt have either hope or celebration in their heart, either as living it or as their dream? |

Anonymous Coward 12/08/2005 10:18 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | People need celebrations. Why? Everyday should be a celebration when you find yourself alive in the morning. I donīt need to be told when and how to celebrate. Life is much simpler when following the beat of your own drum. And it is less expensive. Oh, and no fighting with those you had not rather be made to get together with. |
Irish Eyes 12/08/2005 10:18 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Satan is Santa, kinda sorta. But only in terms of failed imitation. The spirit that gives is the spirit of God. The spirit that desires is the spirit of Satan. Christmas can be of either spirit. The choice is yours. This is not as simple as it sounds. |

Candyman 12/08/2005 10:18 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I agree with you.. a festival whose theme is "Peace on Earth,Goodwill to all men (and women)" is something I can celebrate. One thing I loved about childhood was itīs magic. Tooth fairies, garden gnomes, dragonflies, wishing on the evening star... etc, etc. Because of this Iīm reluctant to simply break the magic of what can be a special celebration in my childrens imaginations. Seeing little kids who are enthralled by christmas "feeds" my christmas spirit. You know... the ones who so enjoy the whole experience and not just the presents. Theyīll look for Santa or leave him milk and cookies, help with baking or decorations, belt out songs resembling carols. Thereīs a certain spark to their eye... they have a sweet and happy disposition. Fortunately, their cheer can be contagious (for me, at least). |

But the daughter still loves to get the christmas stuff out. ![]() I got a 30 ft italian stone pine planted out back, we got it as a christmas tree years back and planted it when christmas was over. But it is truly the thoughts that count. ![]() ![]() |

Mr. Moose, thank you for the second reply to the question that actually answered the question. Itīs for the kids and the kid in each of us. I donīt want to live in a world that is made of up of all cynical adults. So I wonīt. |

But who wants to live in a world where people are like Pavlovīs dogs. They run shopping when the bell rings. And many do this even when they DONīT want to. That is truly mindless. |

You so missed the point, you passed it on the way back. Hereīs a free gift. Be extraordinarly nice today, to one person, that doesnīt deserve it, just for the heck of it. Or find someone, someone you donīt like and either say something nice or donīt say anything at all. |

When I speak of the spirit that gives, I wasnīt talking about Christmas gifts. As for the tree...I used to love them. Now, I just view it as a mindless waste of life. But then most everything we do is mindless. |

You donīt DO Christmas. Take Halloween - total strangers come to your door looking for candy. Strangers interact with others. You actually talk to people that you donīt have to. Very bad. Kids have fun - very very bad. Christmas as celebrated is just up a notch. People speak to other people. Wish each other HOLLIDAY greetings. Get together. Eat, drink and remember that other people are alive. I wish everyday was like this. It isnīt. |
unibonger 12/08/2005 10:18 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Pithy Iīm not trying to say itīs bad to wish people well. I take the approach that I try and treat other people with respect all year round. Confining the īgood will towards menī to one day is hypocritical IMO. Christmas has become nothing more than an all out assault of consumerism. BUY BUY BUY. If I fell like being generous and giving somebody something, Iīm not going to wait for Xmas to do it. Iīll do it when I can afford it and when I fell it is appropriate. Christmas is for those who have religion and/or children. I have neither so it isnīt for me. Besides, isnīt īChristīmas supposed to be about Christīs birthday? WTF does stringing lights on your house, exchanging gifts or cutting down a perfectly good tree have to do with His birthday? Ever wonder why I always end my posts with Peace |
Anonymous Coward 12/08/2005 10:18 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Confining the īgood will towards menī to one day is hypocritical IMO. Yep, most people only think about being nice during the holidays (but then some become downright grouchy because of being made to do things they donīt want to because of the īhappyī holidays) and then come January it is back to business as usual. It is like being bi-polar. Happy one minute only to get grouchy the next. The holidays really take a toll on people whether they realize it or not. And if people say they do this for the children then stop the once a year madness and let the kids have fun year round. Give them presents when they least expect it and throw surprise parties other than on their birthdays. Decorate the house and light candles just because. Get creative and let kids know that happiness does not depend on stuff and being made to jump on the merry-go-round just because everyone else is. Let them be creative. There is really nothing creative doing something everyone else is doing. One more thing, donīt do it for Jesus. He wasnīt born during this time of year and Dec. 25th has nothing to do with our Savior in the first place. |
