They are gonna need all that cold storage and shipping capability to ship the vaccine around the country. Sounds like someone trying to test run a sabotage mission.

I see a name on the freezers in the picture, could this be the one?

States are panic buying powerful deep freezers to store the COVID vaccine at -94F after Pfizer announced their trial had been successful

Your typical chest freezer doesn't get to -94 below. They will need Co2 freezers and CO2 tanks, maybe freon might work. Damn...we used to be in that business. I know some people are going to be making a killing.

I won't name the specific company, but they have 250+ sites across the country specializing in refrigerated and frozen storage and shipping. All sites systems are down and they've shut their gates so trucks can no longer enter to pickup product. I know this because I'm the supply chain director for a food company that sells refrigerated dairy products. We use this company as a third party logistics supplier and I'm completely unable to ship Thangsgiving orders from any of their sites across the country. I've got a rough day ahead of me workwise to figure out to mitigate any of this.

Be vigilant.

Finally. I can answer questions because I work at the place he is talking about and I can confirm all systems went down yesterday at 1600. I haven't talked to anyone today yet.

It’s Americold
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8694319

“ The North American cold storage market is undergoing rapid consolidation, and Americold is keeping its foot firmly on the accelerator.

Less than a month after one acquisition, the cold storage behemoth is taking over yet another player, Hall’s Warehouse Corp, to expand its footprint.

The $480m acquisition brings a further 58 million cubic feet of warehouse space to its portfolio.

Hall’s operates eight facilities in New Jersey, all within 30 miles of the port of Newark, comprising 200,000 pallet positions and serving 220 customers. According to Americold, the occupancy rate is 95%.

Americold president & CEO Fred Boehler said the deal “complements our growing scale in a key market located with one day’s drive of approximately 30% of the population in the US”.”

[link to theloadstar.com (secure)]
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79612991

I did confirm that Hall's is not affected. A recent acquisition and wasn't yet integrated with the IT system. Was concerned because we make a lot of deliveries at Hall's sites in NY/NJ to support Restaurant Depot's.

Hey - if any of you could reach out to a Lineage or US Cold Site to see if they are having similar issues, we could confirm something impacting the entire industry. Between those two + the one I won't name, probably covers 50% of the entire refrigerated/frozen food supply chain.

A bit off topic

Local Kroger in Michigan is only carrying one name brand toilet paper, Cottenelle

Same with paper towel, Brawny or Viva or the other crappy stuffy

The other paper is Regal

Made with Global Tissue’s most environmentally friendly processes, our Regal ® line of products is a perfect combination of select standard quality and great value. Competitive pricing and our use of recycled paper makes Regal’s diverse selection of napkins, paper towels, facial tissue, and toilet tissue earth-conscious as well as budget-conscious.

I think they likely are going to secure vaccines for distribution but I would imagine that it wouldn't require such a huge operation storage facility that would be nuts.

But maybe? Moderna said theirs can be held in storage for 30 days stable.

That is true. Been in the refrigeration business for over 40 years. Refrigeration units that get down to the -75 to -100 degrees are very specialized. Normal freezers used in large storage usually can only go down to -20 max. This story has nothing to do about the vaccine.

They built a brand new frozen storage facility in the region

Had a contract to store ice cream

Ice cream stores at -30 F

All filled up and going great

UNTIL

Chinese Computer chips designed to go down to -20F

Computers froze

They had to abandon that facility - BUILT for FROZEN ICE CREAM CONTRACTS

Standing empty ... empty parking lot - laid off employees

How on earth are they gonna store VACCINES at -80F required or alternatively -30F the other companies

They can’t even keep ICE CREAM COLD enough

Anyone taking the jab

Walk in with an ice cream cone

If it melts while you are waiting

The vaccine isn’t any good either

And do they warm it sonit doesn’t freeze your veins and muscles ?

Sounds risky

Folks, I don’t think thas anything to do w the vaccine. You only need one site to handle the vaccine, systematically shutting down ALL sites is either

1) Just a ‘glitch’. Installed a software upgrade gone bad.

2) The GLP’er explanation (from me). Shut down frozen, refrigerated food distribution the week before thanksgiving. I work in the industry, when I have more time I can post further how much damage this could do to our food supply chains if this isn’t quickly resolved.

3) The beginning of a zero day attack, my phone could not access the internet between 10am and just a few minutes ago.

I’ll continue to update on situation. So far no improvements.

I agree it’s nothing to do with the vaccine. The temps the vac need to stay stable far exceed the capabilities of any of these units. It’s anyone’s guess what anyone might need the units for, maybe no one needs them and it’s just a cyber attack.
