2 nutrients you are missing
I'll share a few things I've discovered that will help improve your health.

The Western diet is very deficient in iodine and magnesium.

I used to have 20:550 eyesight. Could see close up, but walk 10 ft away and you were just fuzz. Then I hit 45 and lost my adaptive eyesight (the lens becomes rigid and unable to change focal point).

Started the iodine to try out a Polarpure water purifier to see how bad the taste was. Made a liter of water with it. Well, it tasted wonderful. So I made another liter of iodine water the next day. It was hot weather and it was so refreshing.

After 4 days of doing this, I noticed my brain fog lifted.
Polarpure method was a bit of a pain in the but, so I switched to Dr. Lugol's since that involved just putting a few drops into a glass of water. Then I noticed a zinging like pain in the front of my eye every so often. Apparantly that was the lens becoming mobile again. Now I can see up close perfectly, and also my distance vision has gotten way the heck better. The optometrist thought I must had lasik. The amt of iodine I take is roughly the equivalent of what the Japanese get in their seafood rich diet.
(The US RDA is far too low, and the iodine in salt is just enough to keep you from developing a goiter).

Iodine is water soluble and runs to the sea. Depleted inland areas are referred to as the "goiter belt".

The other nutrient we are short on is magnesium. This is vital to heart health. All I can say is take a supplement with the RDA for magnesium. I discovered this when I had a physical and the doc ran an EKG and told me my heart rhythm was screwed up.
Was getting PVCs etc.
I did a little reading and found that magnesium is essential for a healthy heart beat. Not enough in food unless you eat 10 lbs of meat a day. Started taking a supplement pill. went back to the doc and insisted he redo the EKG. Clean as a whistle, no more PVCs. And I could feel the improvement as well when I exercised.

Hope that helps some people.

Magnesium is huge.

So are vitamins C and D3.

I lowered my cholesterol huge by just taking fish oil and Turmeric and not altering my diet.

I don't think the "old man vitamin"(Men's 50+) has hurt,either

Also started taking zinc and vitamin E recently.

Wish I could find something for spinal pain.

If you need Magnesium its important to look for the compound "Magtein" Magnesium Threonate. Its absorption is nearly 100% whereas regular magnesium isn't absorbed enough to really be beneficial.

All the Magnesium you buy at the store is basically wasted. I take 2 scoops of Magtein daily. I used to get bad migraines and they didn't stop when I took the pills. When I started Magtein it literally cured me.

I've been taking 250 mg Magnesium daily (in a complete mineral supplement). The RDA is 400, but I eat at least 3 eggs a day and enough meat that I figure I am good on magnesium. Eggs supposedly have 200 mg of magnesium. One of the rare decent food sources of mg.

The Japanese diet is around 40 to 50 times more iodine than the US RDA. They have a much lower incidence of cancer and heart disease than the west, and have a slightly higher IQ on the whole.

I take 3 to 4 drops of Dr. Lugol's 2% iodine solution in a glass of water.

Before that, I was trying the Polarpure water purifier which has iodine crystals in a little mesh cage inside of a glass jar that holds about 2 ozs of water. Pretty clever device that you fill with water, wait a half hour, in which time it forms a saturated solution, then that couple ounces of water is dumped into a 1 liter water bottle and if you are in the wilderness you leave it sit for a half hour for the iodine to kill any pathogens in it.

The Polarpure seemed to be a bit more effective, but not sure why.

It was a pain to use though, because of the time needed to saturate the solution, and also the seller quit selling them. So I switched to Lugols which only takes a couple seconds to put the drops into a glass of water.

Iodine is a strong oxidizer and it also tends to want to leave the container. So the rubber on the eyedroppers may not last more than a year or 2. (I bought a few spare glass eyedroppers from Amazon to replace them when they go bad.) And whatever you store next to the bottle will get a brown stain on any paper labels. I've been taking it for about 9 years now.

The minerals I take are a magnesium amino acid chelate complex with glycine, so I believe they are bio available.

"Magnesium glycinate -- Magnesium glycinate (magnesium bound with glycine, a non-essential amino
acid) is one of the most bioavailable and absorbable forms of magnesium, and also the least likely to
induce diarrhea. It is the safest option for correcting a long-term deficiency."

You raise a good point though. Years ago, some people were taking calcium supplements which simply passed through the body without being absorbed.

Good work, OP.

Just those two nutrients could save, many, many lives.

Iodine cured my mitral valve prolapse completely. I am fit now. Magnesium helps you relax. 400 to 800mg of MGO per day works for me. I think it's absorbing just fine. Sometimes the body needs a gentler, slower absorption. I've tried a few types of magnesium, and MGO is easiest on the body. If it doesn't absorb enough, a bigger dose may help. I find it better than magnesium chloride.

I take both magnesium glycinate and magtein (Magnesium L-threonate). Supposedly magtein is for the brain, it crosses the blood brain barrier. Magnesium glycinate which is also very bio-available is for the heart, muscles and everything else.

I also take Survival sheild X2 nascent iodine. Plus a plethora of other stuff.

For pain I take tart cherry extract, mostly for muscular pain but it's cheap and worth a shot for your spine.
Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then.

The fastest way to absorb magnesium and reverse deficiency is through the skin.

Magnesium oil is made with Magnesium Choride

Just buy a 10$ bag of ancient minerals brand Mg. Chloride

Mix some crystals in pure water

rub onto the skin

if you get any red itchy bumps that is the sign of magnesium deficiency

It goes away quickly and MG Oil is the only known way to quickly reverse deficiency

Mg. Threonate is good for the brain but expensive

The multi-mineral supplement I am taking and linked above has 0.5 mg of Boron as well for the half daily dose I am taking.

You don't want to be missing any minerals, And you don't want to take too much of one thing and ignore the other mineral that might get crowded out by the one you are taking, so that is why I found one of the so called "mega multi mineral" supplements that should give you the full spectrum.

I just wanted to point out these 2 elements that your body cannot create, and that almost everyone is critically short on. If you live near the sea, eat fish and seaweed every day, and throw your wood ashes on your garden that you eat from a lot, then you might be fine. That is how mankind started out pretty much.

But if you are living 1000 miles from the ocean, and eat all your food from well worn commercial farms that are fertilized only with NPK fertilizers, then you are basically starving for these nutrients, and can have children with horrible defects (cretinism, lowered IQ, failure to thrive, neural tube defects etc), all for the lack of a couple cheap supplements.

It amazes me the lack of dietary understanding in what passes for doctors these days. If you show up with hypothryroidism, they will happily prescribe you some thyroid hormone for the rest of your life (which contains iodine), or you can actually get better by ingesting the needed amounts of vital minerals.

I'm not a medical doctor. Just me. Do your own research etc disclaimer.

Any sort of joint pain, and I boil up a whole chicken for a couple hours, till the cartilages are literally dissolving. Then drink that broth and of course eat the chicken.

I have had a very bad knee pain a couple times and it fixes it very quickly. Like in 2 days of eating and drinking the chicken and the bone broth.

I guess if you buy KNOX real gelatin, you might get a similar effect, but I like chicken. :)

Good post,

Recently started taking iodine droplets in water

Started taking Calcium / Magnesium / Zinc supplements as well when I realized my diet doesnt have much of any of that

Also started taking D3 after my blood work shows I was low in vitamin D

Also started drinking fiber "shakes" in the morning with psyllium husk and wheat dextrin for high cholesterol.

Also quit drinking caffiene altogether

After doing all that, wow what a huge difference! feel 1000 times better overall.

These are minerals, not vitamins, just to be clear.

The Recommended minimum daily requirements are not going to overload your kidneys.

The amount of iodine is a trace nutrient, so there is zero chance of it overloading kidneys.

The "natural" way to get these nutrients in the past involved throwing your wood ashes from your cooking and heating fires onto your garden. The ashes are the minerals left from the wood. Which the tree obtained from its deep root system.

Modern farming and natural gas and electric stoves has eliminated this source of natural nutrition.
And mankind evolved in coastal locations, and ate a lot of sea food, which are swimming in a brine of minerals.

As civilization developed, we became more isolated from nature and began a diet of whatever grew well on depleted soil, fertilized with N, P and K. N, P and K make pretty green plants, but they don't contain the stuff humans need to be healthy.

Some minerals may have been absorbed by breathing in dirt blown on the wind, and of course there were the famous healing mineral spas, where you would sit in some muddy bog for a while.

Since most of use no longer have access to muddy bogs, or live 100 feet from the ocean, we can use a little help in the nutrition department.

Before they started adding iodine to salt, the central US used to be known as the "goiter belt". :)

But they only added enough iodine to prevent goiters, not to be healthy. So eating iodized salt will still leave you with a deficiency of iodine, as can be easily seen in comparing the health of the average person living in Japan, with the average person in the US.

Re: 2 nutrients you are missing
The other point I would make with regard to iodine.

It is a halogen and competes for uptake in the body with the other halogens (chlorine and Bromine) in particular.

The US is one of the few if not the only country that chlorinates its drinking water.

That chlorine will compete with iodine for uptake into the body.

Same with Bromine, which is used as a "dough conditioner" in your bread.

There are different opinions out there on how much iodine should be eaten depending upon who you talk to.

I am of the opinion that the empirical evidence of Japan's markedly better brain and body health speaks for its self.

The US RDA for iodine is about 1/40th of what it should be.

And we should seriously look at removing chlorine and bromine from our diets.
