Re: 2 nutrients you are missing, Iodine and Magnesium
Good post,

Recently started taking iodine droplets in water

Started taking Calcium / Magnesium / Zinc supplements as well when I realized my diet doesnt have much of any of that

Also started taking D3 after my blood work shows I was low in vitamin D

Also started drinking fiber "shakes" in the morning with psyllium husk and wheat dextrin for high cholesterol.

Also quit drinking caffiene altogether

After doing all that, wow what a huge difference! feel 1000 times better overall.
 Quoting: luxor

Hurrah! All my life I would try some supplement someone said would make be feel better. Never noticed much of any effects.

But with iodine, I went from struggling to find the right word or trying to remember a name all the time, to having the fog lift.
Then my vision healed almost to the point of not needing glasses.
And my energy level picked up a bit.

Then the magnesium fixed my heartbeat. Very noticeable in how it felt, to the point I insisted the doc redo the ECG over his scoffing insistence that I needed to see a heart specialist.

He looked at the trace and said you are normal. I asked if I still needed to see a specialist, as I felt great. He said, you can if you want to, but there is no indication that you need to based on what I am seeing today.

So I kind of felt obligated to share at least those 2 nutrients, that I have had considerable experience with, and researched fairly extensively.

Re: 2 nutrients you are missing, Iodine and Magnesium
How many mg of magnesium and iiodine? Great info
 Quoting: President Elect Sunnie2

I've been taking 250 mg Magnesium daily (in a complete mineral supplement). The RDA is 400, but I eat at least 3 eggs a day and enough meat that I figure I am good on magnesium. Eggs supposedly have 200 mg of magnesium. One of the rare decent food sources of mg.

The Japanese diet is around 40 to 50 times more iodine than the US RDA. They have a much lower incidence of cancer and heart disease than the west, and have a slightly higher IQ on the whole.

I take 3 to 4 drops of Dr. Lugol's 2% iodine solution in a glass of water.

Before that, I was trying the Polarpure water purifier which has iodine crystals in a little mesh cage inside of a glass jar that holds about 2 ozs of water. Pretty clever device that you fill with water, wait a half hour, in which time it forms a saturated solution, then that couple ounces of water is dumped into a 1 liter water bottle and if you are in the wilderness you leave it sit for a half hour for the iodine to kill any pathogens in it.

The Polarpure seemed to be a bit more effective, but not sure why.

It was a pain to use though, because of the time needed to saturate the solution, and also the seller quit selling them. So I switched to Lugols which only takes a couple seconds to put the drops into a glass of water.

Iodine is a strong oxidizer and it also tends to want to leave the container. So the rubber on the eyedroppers may not last more than a year or 2. (I bought a few spare glass eyedroppers from Amazon to replace them when they go bad.) And whatever you store next to the bottle will get a brown stain on any paper labels. I've been taking it for about 9 years now.

Thank you, I forgot to mention that.
I almost hate to mention things that sound over the top, but there is a lot of literature out there supporting this assertion.

The other point I would make with regard to iodine.

It is a halogen and competes for uptake in the body with the other halogens (chlorine and Bromine) in particular.

The US is one of the few if not the only country that chlorinates its drinking water.

That chlorine will compete with iodine for uptake into the body.

Same with Bromine, which is used as a "dough conditioner" in your bread.

There are different opinions out there on how much iodine should be eaten depending upon who you talk to.

I am of the opinion that the empirical evidence of Japan's markedly better brain and body health speaks for its self.

The US RDA for iodine is about 1/40th of what it should be.

And we should seriously look at removing chlorine and bromine from our diets.
 Quoting: President Elect - Justmeok

Bromine disrupts the thyroid gland and interferes with the production of thyroid hormones. The thyroid gland relies on iodine obtained through the foods you eat to produce thyroid hormones that are essential for normal growth, development and metabolism. Because it’s so similar to iodine, bromine can take the place of iodine, which results in less iodine for the thyroid gland. This interferes with the thyroid’s ability to function and can lead to hypothyroidism. Bromine may also increase the elimination of iodine from the body, which also lowers the amount of iodine available for the thyroid gland.

Health Warnings

In addition to potential effects on the thyroid, potassium bromate is a category 2B carcinogen, according to the International Agency for Research on Cancer 4. Class 2B means that it has caused cancer in laboratory animals, but that there is only limited evidence of its potential to cause cancer in people. It has been banned from use as a food additive in Europe and Canada. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration asked bakers to voluntarily use other additives and set limits on the amounts that can be used in baked goods and soft drinks, but did not ban the additive. The Center for Science in the Public Interest recommends cautionary consumption of brominated vegetable oil and suggests avoiding potassium bromate 5. You can easily avoid these additives by looking for “bromated flour,” “potassium bromate” or “brominated vegetable oil” in the list of ingredients.

If you need Magnesium its important to look for the compound "Magtein" Magnesium Threonate. Its absorption is nearly 100% whereas regular magnesium isn't absorbed enough to really be beneficial.

All the Magnesium you buy at the store is basically wasted. I take 2 scoops of Magtein daily. I used to get bad migraines and they didn't stop when I took the pills. When I started Magtein it literally cured me.

Re: 2 nutrients you are missing, Iodine and Magnesium
Well done OP. Nice to see someone that finally figured things out. You've listed two of the three primary components to healthy living. Selenium is the third, as it's benefits are when best paired with magnesium. It makes magnesium much more effective. While other vitamins are very helpful, these are the ones that "can" or "may" significantly improve quality of life.

Iodine comes in two flavors, shellfish based, and mineral based. Shellfish based is what people can be allergic, or have reactions to. Mineral based, (mostly) not at all. While the body can not produce iodine, it's needed by every cell in the body.

Iodine is essentially, the anti-septic formula for the body, able to be used internally, and externally. The health benefits are huge. I'd recommend reading a book called "The iodine crisis" if you want endless stories about its success. There is a reason they don't teach about it any longer. Ever notice they use it to clean you before surgery, or before donating blood? What do they know that most people do not?

As a halogen, it competes with all the other halogens mentioned prior, including Flouride. Flouride is a heavier halogen than iodine, which means a consistent supply of iodine is needed to flush out these toxins. They all fight over the same receptors, and it takes time for iodine to displace the bad stuff.

We've use iodine and the mentioned above for so long, I can't remember the last year in my life I've been sick. There are so many uses for this stuff. One example: Dilute/mix in a small bit of water and use it for an acne treatment.

People must learn to become their own doctors.

Yes, it was a small family business as I understand, and there were some new government requirements, don't remember what it was, but the guy that started and owned the company dug his heels in and would not comply. I think he might have passed away, not sure, and I think it was sold to some Chinese concern, after which there were all kinds of quality complaints.

Things might have changed since I last dug into it. It was a brilliant product though, and nothing would make me happier than seeing the good product returned to the marketplace.

I still have a couple bottles of the stuff around somewhere, gassing off and turning something brown I'm sure. :)

There is certainly some conflicting info out there regarding iodine.

I think you found some. :)

Iodine is well tolerated to pretty high levels.
The body excretes what it doesn't need.

By the way, the amounts of iodine I am talking about here are only about 1/50th the dosage you get from one of those "radiation pills".

[link to www.fda.gov (secure)]

Radiation dosage = 130 milligrams daily.

US RDA = 150 micrograms daily

Lugol's 2% solution contains 1 milligram of the element Iodine per drop.

Re: 2 nutrients you are missing, Iodine and Magnesium
I'll share a few things I've discovered that will help improve your health.

The Western diet is very deficient in iodine and magnesium.

I used to have 20:550 eyesight. Could see close up, but walk 10 ft away and you were just fuzz. Then I hit 45 and lost my adaptive eyesight (the lens becomes rigid and unable to change focal point).

Started the iodine to try out a Polarpure water purifier to see how bad the taste was. Made a liter of water with it. Well, it tasted wonderful. So I made another liter of iodine water the next day. It was hot weather and it was so refreshing.

After 4 days of doing this, I noticed my brain fog lifted.
Polarpure method was a bit of a pain in the but, so I switched to Dr. Lugol's since that involved just putting a few drops into a glass of water. Then I noticed a zinging like pain in the front of my eye every so often. Apparantly that was the lens becoming mobile again. Now I can see up close perfectly, and also my distance vision has gotten way the heck better. The optometrist thought I must had lasik. The amt of iodine I take is roughly the equivalent of what the Japanese get in their seafood rich diet.
(The US RDA is far too low, and the iodine in salt is just enough to keep you from developing a goiter).

Iodine is water soluble and runs to the sea. Depleted inland areas are referred to as the "goiter belt".

The other nutrient we are short on is magnesium. This is vital to heart health. All I can say is take a supplement with the RDA for magnesium. I discovered this when I had a physical and the doc ran an EKG and told me my heart rhythm was screwed up.
Was getting PVCs etc.
I did a little reading and found that magnesium is essential for a healthy heart beat. Not enough in food unless you eat 10 lbs of meat a day. Started taking a supplement pill. went back to the doc and insisted he redo the EKG. Clean as a whistle, no more PVCs. And I could feel the improvement as well when I exercised.

Hope that helps some people.

Is it not hard on the liver or kidney taking so many vitamins???

Should we not get these vitamins from natural sources...

As opposed to getting them from "pharma companies"???
 Quoting: COVID19

There are no longer any natural sources since we've depleted our soils of boron and nature depleted most of the land of iodine! The same is true for a number of other elements including selenium.

BTW, an easy way to get magnesium if you have a deep tub is to soak in a tub with epsom salts. You will absorb the magnesium through your skin and can feel the difference.

Iodine is in my thyroid booster. I also take magnesium; Morley Robbins says it’s an important factor in metabolism and can give you energy. I think vitamin k2 is important for bone health. I started taking it over the summer after my dental scare (which turned out to be nothing).

I’m also taking Ashwaghanda, an Aryuveda herb, which has a calming and sedating effect. Highly recommend.

For maximum clarity, get up before 6, do a morning workout, and don’t eat after 5-6 in the evening. Timing is an important part of health. Taking supplements won’t have an effect if your regimen isn’t well structured.

If you fill the glass bottles with water, the offgassing of iodine goes to almost zero. A much better way to do it for long term storage, as long as the bottles are in a location that will never go below freezing.

They are selling PolarPure again. Even Amazon has it, and Amazon is pretty strict about selling raw iodine related products.

 Quoting: President Elect - Justmeok

Be a little bit careful thinking the "Japanese iodine intake" study is ideal for good health. I looked into that a bit a while ago because I kept seeing it referenced on iodine related websites, and if I remember correctly the Japanese study was flawed. Something to do with them accidentally using the wet weight stat for kelp/seaweed to calculate the iodine consumed on average instead of calculating the iodine content from the dry weight stat of the kelp/seaweed consumed (which is the standard way of reporting nutrient/mineral amounts). Basically, they way over calculated the iodine intake average.

I do agree with you that iodine is good however, and the RDA is likely way too low in the US, but I think 1-2mg/day is likely the ideal range for most people. That's still 8x the current RDA if I remember correctly. 12-50mg or more, like some websites online tout, is likely damaging long term. Too much can cause permanent thyroid issues over time. If I personally take more than about 3mg per day, I start to gain weight like crazy. Like +10 pounds per month withut any other dietary changes. Every body is different. Selenium is also very important if you are taking hiher than normal levels of iodine, because it helps keep excessive levels of iodine from damaging healthy tissue.

LASTLY-

One egg only contains about 6mg of magnesium, so if you eat 3 eggs a day that's only adding about 18mg of magnesium to your diet.

I still have a couple bottles of the stuff around somewhere, gassing off and turning something brown I'm sure. :)

Thanks for the correction on the eggs. I googled it right before posting it. That was the mg of cholesterol.
It didn't sound right when I was typing it.

Re: 2 nutrients you are missing, Iodine and Magnesium
There use to be a problem in the past, with not enough people getting iodine in their diets. The result was that some of the population ended up with goiter. They learned the solution to this was to add iodine to the salt people consumed.

The RDA suggests iodine numbers only sufficient enough to ward off goiter. It's not enough for an abundance of health. They intentionally wanted to lose the health benefits of iodine to history.

There's no money in healthy people, and big pharma and medical aren't in the business of putting themselves out of business, so they have a need to create customers.
