In the past, when something horrible (and costly) was about to be unleashed upon a corporation they would just change their name and diversify/split up all of their assets and holdings, so that by the time the Court ruled that they had to pay out a bunch of money, well, THAT company was no longer in business, so sorry. There would still be settlement money paid out, but nothing NEAR what the victims deserved or were actually entitled to, and the company would continue on under a different name.
