Native Atlantan here. I left in the 90’s and at that time, people joked that MARTA stood for Moving Africans Rapidly Through Atlanta instead of Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority. When MARTA opened a station at Lenox Square Mall, it caused a huge ruckus as folks insisted it would bring crime to the area. This year, there’s been 6 shootings at a once luxurious mall, and countless muggings, smash and grabs, and intimidation and violence toward the shoppers and diners. It’s quite sad.
