thinking... User ID: 78212432 ![]() 11/21/2020 04:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I agree, OP. I have to look down and to the right side of the road when someone with those comes at me at night. I hate them. After years of driving a beater with the old headlights, I recently bought a newer car and it has not halogen but something called Xenon headlights which are very bright white light. I don't like them but don't think they can be changed. Another weird aspect of them is that that there's a sharp line between what's lit up (in front of me) and what isn't. Unlike normal lights that kind of fade out around the distance, these create a sharp line of demarcation between where the lights shine and where they don't (just above, if that makes sense). The car manual warns they can blind an oncoming driver. WTF? Why even have them? I am not sure (US-posters please correct) but afaik in most states of the US there is no mandatory annual car check. Which, at least here, includes checking headlights for the correct distance setting and enough or too much (aftermarket stuff) brightness. Fix it or lose allowance (and insurance protection) to use car on public roads with a few weeks grace period. Life is a 100% deadly sexually transmitted disease. Instead of a single point light source at the focal point of the reflector, it is multiple LEDs that are in front of the focal point, causing the light to spread out all over the place, including your eyeballs. They used to actually check headlight aim on safety inspections in the old days. Otherwise people would drive around with one headlight aimed at the moon. Justme |

Some headlights are at eye level. Police don't care but in the bigger cities they "may" make you disconnect the lights and mount them below the front bumper. But that's not easy to enforce as lifted trucks are becoming the norm. Even new car dealerships are selling the already lifted trucks with headlights 4-5 feet above the ground. There's no annual check for headlight beam distance, they just check to make sure the bulbs aren't burnt out. |
