Quoting: WalkingMiracle (LSDMTHC) Dude is lucky it happened in this little pond in palm harbor, wife and I were at a park in oldsmar near the tarpon canal and have seen an at least 13 ft massive gator. We thought it was a tree that fell over until it jumped into the water. Not being native to Florida I think it’s awesome. Grew up right down in the 727... tons of big gaters.. Little park near tarpon canal? Thinking of Brooker Creek? Or John Chestnut park? Biggest I saw was close to 20 feet You live here in Fla? The biggest I ever saw was 12ft. 20ft is a bit tall in the tail? The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says the record for the heaviest gator caught in the state is a 1,043-pound male from Orange Lake in Alachua County. It was long, too: 13 feet, 10-1/2 inches. The longest gator caught was a 14-foot, 3-1/2 inch male from Lake Washington in Brevard County Dogs Tracked Down Electronic Tracking Collars Reveal Final Destination [link to www.spokesman.com (secure)] I was a little kid then but it was huge! I know the biggest ever was 15 or so, but I didn’t have my tape measure to see what this was! This gater was a legend at brooker creek so I’m sure it’s official size is known |

Quoting: ~Blue Spirit~ The easiest way to have set it free, or anything else free, would have been to cover the Alligators eyes with a hand, tricking it into thinking it was asleep, attacking the snout, if possible, then the jaws would have loosened some... That is a lucky escape for the Pup in the video though... With alligators (and many other reptiles), if you roll them onto their backs they'll go limp and catatonic in about 10-20 seconds. Yes, heard of that method too on one of those wild Animal nature shows but heard that you won't be able to get the Alligator onto their backs, without a fight/struggle until you cover their eyes to distract them... So, it's cover eyes first, then try and roll them onto their backs... If all else fails and you must fight, you have to cover their eyes and attack their snouts, apparently... (ETA for spelling)... Thanks so much for posting that. Would've never known. |

In my neighborhood before I moved in there was a cat and a dog eaten by alligators. Both times, the owner's fault. If I recall, one was on a dog tie-out cable which should be illegal here, not only due to alligators, but due to the brutal heat, esp in the summer. Nous sommes du soleil. -- We are of the sun. |

Where was the old hero when the alligator grabbed his puppy? Quoting: Butch DeFeo He may have slipped his collar, our dog does it all the time, a regular Houdini.
