I would like to say that as long as that (or any other) boy just want to say "I'm a girl" or want to play with dolls or try girl's outfits or whatever - it is OK. And I do not have a problem with that. But only as long as the mother of that boy let him to continue exploring, and do not label him, or start pushing hormonal therapy or push or require special treatment for him.

I personally was told many times by my parents "you should have been a boy, and your brother should have been a girl". That was based on our actions and interests, and my brother is older then me(I know older sisters could assume control over younger brothers, not our case). Look at us now - we are not gender confused, we are just not sexists, LOL.

In college I also knew many young men, most of them happily married with kids now, who would dress up(in girl closes), let us help with make-up, and go to dancing parties on campus. Just for the fun of it. Those guys were not gender confused. It is a part of growing up.

If a dude wants to use nail polish or wear long hair - let him without "labeling" him. If a little girl wants to play with cars instead of dolls - let her. Do not demand strictly sticking to gender assumed roles.

At my sons preschool last year there was a trans boy. I Facebook stalked the parents. The mom was your typical female looking at her Facebook photo history. Until a few years ago when it looks like she herself began transitioning. It struck me as highly coincidental that she would be going through a gender identity issue and her 3 year old son was as well? It also made me think about my son at that age. He could care less at 3 what I dressed him in. They just aren’t that aware of clothes unless they are wearing costumes and such. I’m quite sure she was the one making him wear dresses and pink leggings and sparkly shoes. So messed up because the following year my son didn’t want to play with him because he was ls wearing dresses. So messed up!
