Edison International could cut power to more than 70,000 Southern California homes and businesses on Thanksgiving as strong winds are forecast to return to the rain-deprived region.

The outages, intended to prevent power lines from sparking wildfires, would strike mountainous areas of Kern, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties, according to a company website. Power would likely be out until Friday evening,
