Hey gun enthusiast. I have a question about the AR platform with 7.62 x 39?
Anyone here have one and are they dependable> any info would be appreciated. I am thinking of getting one. I got rid of my AK47 and still have lots and lots of 7.62 x 39 ammo. close to 2000 round. I might sell my ammo if I can't find an AR 7.62 x 39 rifle.

Thank you for your info.

A friend of my was telling me that Radical Arms has good AR 7.62 x 39 for around $700. Is that sounding reasonable and is Radical Arms any good? What about Palmetto State Armory? Only problem with them is the are on back order for everything and about 2 months to 3 months at the very least.

LOl. I have no idea who that is, but I love the humor. I'm in Michigan and no mountains here. I am starting to think I made a mistake when I sold my AK47. I should probably have bought the AR 7.62 x 39 rifle first.

Re: Hey gun enthusiast. I have a question about the AR platform with 7.62 x 39?
I got a 6.5 Grendel which is a necked down x39, haven't had a chance to get it to the range due to quality control issues. You will probably have some too if you buy a cheap upper right now, they are cranking them out at breakneck speed.

But from what I've seen in the forums they're a bit less reliable than a 5.56 variant... mostly due to magazine issues, but also the chambers.

In my case, the gas tube was installed upside down!

Are you talking abut the CMMG mutant. That is the AR platform that use original AK magazines I think.

PSA is awesome, I've built 2 ARs with their parts and the quality is excellent... I would highly recommend.

Avoid the AR Stoner MidwayUSA brand, that's what I got and if you look in the forums there are many people who have had major issues.

I think your nuts to mix ammo and platforms. Either get another AK or sell the ammo or trade it for 5.56 ammo and buy an AR

If you have mags for an AK I would lean heavily in that direction this late in the game. It’s the fourth quarter man

cheers

Re: Hey gun enthusiast. I have a question about the AR platform with 7.62 x 39?
7.62 x 39 is desireable right now because there is more ammo available for cheap compared to 5.56, or some of the longer range stuff.

One of the best AR platforms for 7.62x39 is the PSA KS47

[link to palmettostatearmory.com (secure)]
It is an AR15 with a special lower that accomodates typical AK magazines. The feed is pretty good.

The only issue with this platform is availabilty.
Lowers are available but uppers and complete rifles are not in stock.

The other option is CMMG. Similar setup.

Caliber wise yes, power wise you can actually get a bit more energy out of the Grendel.

Ballistics are superior to either 5.56 or x39, it can reach out to 800 yards easily.

But ammo especially right now is hard to come by, wouldn't recommend unless you reload. Probably will never be able to buy factory rounds in a store, even when the situation improves (if it ever does)

One problem I know of is case head size is bigger than 556 so a 7.62x39 bolt has a very thin wall around bolt face due to the bolt face needing to be reamed out more for larger case head, same for 6.5 grendel and a few others... That is a week spot and there have been some that have cracked.

7.62 in an AR platform especially built not bought, have feeding problems. Just go with AK if youre set on 7.62. if youre wanting an AR platform gun chambered in 7.62 I suggest looking at building or buying a 300 Blackout. PSA has excellent customer service and have great products, but their shipping times are lacking even way before the election.

Yeah Grendel uses the same bolt diameter as x39, the original Alexander Arms specification used a thicker bolt but then people started headspacing barrels for the x39 bolt to get around AA patents which caused a lot of failures.

I'd sell the ammo on gunbroker and use that to buy some 5.56 if you want an AR15.

I know the AK is very good and reliable, but I really like the AR platform and I am much more familiar with it. I was in the Army and just got used to it. I also liked it more than the AK. Heck I sold my AK and got $400 more than what I paid for it at a Michigan gun show.
