I'll make this quick: Mother in law had her current husband of 39 years pass away from Covid. Mother in law now wants to go after ex-husbands SS benefit, since they had been married for 16 years.Everything I find is the fact that she remarried excludes her from this.
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Quoting: Sodbuster Pretty sure she can go after 1st husband. I have a situation where my mom is comfortable with a pension and SS benefits from her deceased husband and some snake 20 years younger (broke) trying to marry her. luckily she said no, she won't risk it but my F/A said you can now remarry and still collect ex husband SS, they changed that law BUT I never told my mother that Quoting: KuvaszLove Be careful and make sure. Some of these things have caveots, etc. I really think that she can only collect on husband #1 if husband #2 also dies. Just be careful. I am not totally sure.
