The word "fiat" literally means "by decree/edict".

If you think the powers that be want to decree gold and silver as fiat money to be used in circulation, you are sadly mistaken. That's the LAST item they want the people to ever own.

I bought a bunch of gold but it turns out that gold doesn't have much inherent value. Just that it's shiny and hard to get in large amounts.

There are many application for gold and silver in real life. Gold and Silver are the best conductors. Silver for example has antiviral and antibacterial properties which are much better than antibiotics (without side-effects, see colloidals).
