You could use protein powder or TFP if a vegetarian. But plain old pinto beans and rice is cheap and nutritious. You want mixed essential amino acids. See eating just corn gets you half or eating beans gets you half. You want to mix several kinds so you get all the essential amino acids.

People are broke and this the least expensive way. And if you got food, you will be calmer whereas your neighbors will be freaking out.

Your family's morale will go to shit unless you are smart and buy a a simple dessert mix or have canned apples or preserves or honey or similar. Pita bread is the easiest bread as it can be made on a grill or the stove. Baking bread is hard. Biscuits can be made in a dutvh oven but need coals and that takes time. Pita is way easier.
