They can handle statrving themselves, but not witnessing hungry children. They will break the law to steal what little they can find. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 66399491 Starving people in history panicked and did silly things like went out in winter trying anything to catch an animal or get many fish. But these activities require energy to think clearly (blood glucose) and ATP to energize muscles. So they probably fail or barely make up the work calories expended. And what happened frequently were accidents and getting lost and dying of exposure. Nobody can go alone as they can in trouble, so both of them were using up calories and probably fail. Smart animals are hibernating. This is why our ancestors had full pantries. They could get snowed in or lose their jobs or get sick and there was no welfare, just charity from churches. How dreadfully depressing. Thank you so much for sharing all that. Best of luck to the 8 billion people on this planet (and all the animals). I feel as though we are about to experience a near extinction level event (planned). Don't worry. I am certain Gates, Bezos, Soros, and a slew of others have full pantries and their seed is being stored in some seed vault somewhere, ready to repopulate the planet. |

Well a little is made by glycolosis, but mostly is made by eating protein. So the body dissolves the bonds so protein breaks down to amino acids. That then in the Kreb's cycle cranks out ATP. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 66399491 [link to m.youtube.com (secure)] So insufficient sugar itake causes low blood sugar, but also protein is needed to make ATP. GLYCOLYSIS You almost got that right, you poser. |

It looks like someone expects vaccine does not work and investment was useless. Insiders probably. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79788860 Another thing - brits don't take it personally, it is just fear and panic fromn EU, also Turkey, Saudi Arabia and other countries are freezing the border. By tomorrow morning probably all the planet will lock the border with UK (via Airways where applicable). This mutation is too big to be ignored, bringing everything back to square one or worse. The whole world locks us out, what the fuck do they think is going to happen in these next 48hrs? The new strain has been out a week now so why the sudden shut down a week later? Don't underestimate the incompetence of the politicians. Stock market knew it from Monday last week, politicians had to be told by Boris Jonson. The 48 hours is just to gather more info as they dont understand the situation. The virus can even be good news, if is less deadly and spreads more then its vaccine replacement. They juts don't know so they want more info. In theory it might even make global vaccination unnecessary as it might cause a natural herd immunity IMO - if it results in antibodies protecting against the original strain as well. |

Quoting: Sir France's Beercan How? Germany is on a total lockdown too, as are most other European nations. They can’t cross borders and will certainly be battling this new strain very soon. They’ll also be subject to the new vaccine pass if they want to travel. My family live in Austria and it’s just as much of a shitshow over there. Sure but millions of Muslim migrants from the Middle East and North Africa can continue to pour into Germany and the rest of Europe even though it is in lock down. You really believe this bullshit about the virus and the need for a lock down. Millions of migrants? Fuck off, I’m actually pleased that’s the best you can come up with You think cutting off a countries food supply isn't an act of war! Get the fuck out of here you spineless wimp! In fact, the Brits did it to the Irish, to the Germans AFTER WW I, and in Bengal in the 30"s or 40's - and given their track record, I would be very surprised if they didn't do it in South-Africa as well. |

Fruit leathers were made by pounding various berries and then dried in sheets. Pumpkins were kept for a long time in roots cellars and I suppose so were other squashes. Raisins and any dried fruit would be welcome treats in a SHTF scenario. |

Those flowers are full of protein and can be dried and added to boost soup and stews. In history, the Irish crumbled them and mixed half with flour to make bannock. That is an excellent way to stretch flour. If you go near to a swamp, the lowlands will have cattails. The seed head can be harvested as it rippens and that is the best way to get the protein rich pollen. Most people read old ways to do this and so waste most of it as they delay harvesting and so most is gone. You don't want to shake out the pollen, but consume the entire seed head when it is ripe. In the New World, this was routinely done by American colonists, and gave pancakes a golden hue. It saved lives too. The cattail roots are starchy, so can be eaten, but rodents will likely be living on them. The stalks can be eaten like celery. Our ancestors ate milkweed pods routinely and so should you. |

Any smart eight year old can identify milkweed pods. Nothing else truly looks like them. Ordinary honeysuckle is actually a Chinese medicinal and that flower tea has many uses like treating mild pain. Hibiscus flower tea is a good remedy to calm high blood pressure. Both are well tolerated and the latter is delcious when sweetened. When the SHTF, you will have to use every ancestral skill you can use to survive. |

That only worked in history as so few in a group existed and the herds migrated and were abundant. It also means premature death by the very young and very old, and most likely in winter starving time. An expert in summer and autumn when these seasonal plants are abundant might get 800-1000 calories but you need 2000, thus starvation is inevitable. Realize that most game is very lean and you can't absorb excess protein unless you are a bodybuilder whose biochemistry changes as they are exercising muscles intensely. YOU MUST EAT FAT when starving. That is the historical way to survive. Some people were lucky as the fish around them were loaded with fat. But that has its own issues as that makes for fatty stools. That is ordinarily a peculiar medical condition except for certain indigenous people. |

You might expend more in work.calories than you ingest. In winter, they would sit quietly to conserve energy. only madmen waged war in winter. Typically only desperate fools went scavanging for food in winter as you would probably get a chill and get sick and were likely to fail. This is why our ancestors had PACKED pantries as they worried about lean years and famines and blights and ibfestations with poor harvests. A full pantry with inexpensive dried food will help your family cope in a frugal way. |

[link to www.thespruceeats.com (secure)] Make sure to rotate and watch for expirations and so adapt your recipes and menus accordingly. Oils go rancid faster than a novice cook supposes and degrades in flavor. If your meal is slim on nutrition, you boost is with bacon grease or oil. They won't notice and some vitamins need oils for proper absorbtion and utilization. That is like using protein powder. You add a little when you got very little nutrition. Say a child is sick. You could process some canned fruit and protein powder of some kind. When making powdered milk, you do two things. You let it sit so develop proper texture and you chill it to improve flavor. It is missing the fat so will taste off. So some people blend it with proper milk. Some people add itto recipes so it is useful for nutrition. |

Or somehow edible detrius falls in. That is where a clever perwonncould take some window screen material and create makeshift crayfish trap aka crawdads or mudbugs. Then you purge them in saltwater. Then you boil them up with some vegetables like corn. You got periwinkles and limpets in the UK. The Irish used to routinely eat such food. |
