If you're going to die in battle may as well have a belly full of squirrels. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79486625 My recommendation as well. Equip it with the 25 round magazine. Many denigrate the .22 LR as a self defense round, but you can do a lot of damage with 25 rounds. Isaiah 40:31 - But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. “They’ve got us surrounded again, the poor bastards.” - U.S. Army Paratrooper at Bastogne |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79789999 If you’re going to get a rifle, at least get a .223 I see... the thing is, getting good firearms or high caliber here in Brazil is something close to impossible. The .22 is the one I can buy now and afford it. Understood. If that’s the case, get what you can. Smith and Wesson makes a decent 22LR rifle (M&P Sport). |

Hogs are a REAL problem in my farm. They breed A LOT and they can devastate a patch very quickly. Already suffer some good losses on potato and corn patches. I need to exterminate them. Its legal to do so, since they are not a local species. The ones we have are a cross between domestic pigs and wild hogs. MaybeTrollingUAgain |

These are easy to get, many lathe professionals sell them around here, for any kind of ammo. MaybeTrollingUAgain |

Quoting: MaybeTrollingUAgain It's not ideal but better than nothing. CCI stinger rounds will kill. A 22 to the head is likely to kill. If someone cant handle a center fire round. 22 ain't a bad option. Did not see this before I posted my reply. Good to see confirmation. Bing! |

Quoting: MaybeTrollingUAgain That’s good for practicing and target plinking, otherwise small varmint hunting. Given ALL ammo is scarce as it is you’re better off going for something a little more powerful if for hunting and especially if for self defense. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 77022618 United States 12/22/2020 11:13 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | .22LR can get the job done, but it’s all about shot placement (head shots, critical organ shot, etc.). It’s best suited for some self-defense situations and hunting small game. It is considered a sniper tool too. For hunting large game, you should really prefer something that would outright kill the animal, rather than just cruelly wound the animal and then it lingers on in pain and you have to chase after it. In better times, you can buy 22 LR ammunition by the bucket load and learn your marksmanship that way. And I would argue that training your marksmanship is one of the biggest reasons to get 22 LR. Plus, you can pair it up with a 22 LR revolver. And they make a nice pair. If you can get the Ruger 10/22 takedown model, I like that one the best. And as someone mentioned above, the 25 round mags are really nice. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79789999 If you’re going to get a rifle, at least get a .223 no one ever volunteers to get shot by .22lr it's way better than nothing! OP, you need to practice with it. Shot placement is very important. Also remember, that a .22lr is extremely unlikely to kill anyone immediately. You'll need follow up shots, plus the mindset that you'll probably have to engage your attacker hand to hand... at least he's weakened :) |
