The economy isn't going to collapse, the power's not going out. They're going to print unimaginable trillions on top of that already unfathomable trillions they've already printed.

You realize what you just described guarantees an economic
collapse, right?

Printing money is not consequence free.
Otherwise, Zimbabwe and Venezuela would be doing very well
right now.
They are not.

Except for the fact that millions of people are using it every single day for the past 8 years:

Bitcoin is traded for dollars, that's what they're used for. Its value is based on traditional currencies. If the economy collapses then crypto does too.

Stupid cointards.

lmao

Yes.

All currencies are essentially worthless.

What is worth most is food, water, shelter, medicine, and defensive weapons.

When the dollar crashes, each bitcoin will be worth 1 million dollars. 1 million worthless dollars = worthless.

If that happens then everyone else will be poor too, but at least the smart ones will have stocked goods. Nobody is going to give a shit about your stupid bitcoin.

Have fun being a poor tard, dipshit.

I've got all that good sh*t in spades as well.

The acreage, the 5.56, the 9mm, the industrial scale water purifying system, a garage workshop with powertools and hand tools, etc. etc.

Once you have the shelter/food/defense, you need somewhere non-perishable to store your excess wealth.

Barrels of oil are expensive to safely store and protect from thieves.

Livestock are, again, perishable and require manpower to care for.

Gold and Bitcoin are nonperishable (Bitcoin only dies if the Internet PERMANENTLY shuts down. Otherwise it heals, just like a hydra regrows its heads as long as 1 head remains).

In my view, for surplus wealth (beyond the basics), gold and Bitcoin are the only sane choice.

Dollars may become meaningless, but ultimately, the distributed ledger is designed to be independent of it. Bitcoin means bitcoin, not the dollars you can trade for it.

Value is determined by what people are willing to pay for something. If no one is buying, then no one is selling.. and so no one cares.

You can turn around and anonymously sell your "stupid" Bitcoin on craigslist or localbitcoins.com right now for thousands of dollars.

You don't have to personally like them: there's people right now willing to give you stuff (gold, food, whatever) in exchange for your any bitcoins you may have.

Think of it as an intermediate step towards getting the items you want.

The people who thrive in a post-industrial setting are not necessarily going to be the same group of people who thrive right now.

I.e. maybe it will be Conan the Barbarian types who are well off, whereas bookish types will be barely scraping by or starving.

Let me educate you.

Bitcoin is a distributed ledger.

This ledger is ALL around the world on millions of computers.

Bitcoin is also tradeable with EVERY currency.

You can store your wealth and take it with you without having to stuff a suitcase or open bank accounts.

YOU ARE THE BANK.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79346691

Bitcoin will go to zero if/when the lights go out.

In a SHTF situation, Bitcoin will cease to exist.

Gold and silver will always be money until the end of the age.

Only THEN will the Scum That Be toss their gold in the streets, like the bible says.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79828910

You can store your BTC keys offline on a steel plate or even a piece of paper--

-- When the lights come on, you can feed your keys back into your online wallet and *presto*, you have access to your Bitcoin again.

A "Bitcoin" is just a really really really long code that you don't necessarily have to store on an internet-connected device.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75791429

And the Bitcoin Blockchain is like a hydra monster:

as long as 5 or 6 computers are still mining, the network can recover.

The only way to permanently kill it would be to somehow disable all computers in the world simultaneously.

IOW, you're more likely to win 5 lotteries than for someone to do what it would take to disable the Bitcoin blockchain.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75791429

You will know when the USD crashes, 1 BTC will buy what it bought 1 day after the USD crashes. The moments in between will be a stark raving terror for all.
