Republican Josh Hawley (MO) became the first senator to announce he would back a plan by House GOP members to and object to election vote counts on January 6th.
January 6th is the day that a joint session of Congress will be called and lawmakers officially certify the Electoral College votes.
In a statement posted online, Hawley said he believed states like Pennsylvania failed to follow their own election laws, while social media platforms, like Twitter and Facebook, “interfere[d]” in the election.
“At the very least, Congress should investigate allegations of voter fraud and adopt measures to secure the integrity of our elections,” he said.
In a sane world, this would be a reasonable request.
“For these reasons, I will follow the same practice Democrat members of Congress have in years past and object during the certification process on January 6 to raise these critical issues,” explained Hawley.

President Trump last week hosted a group of House Republicans who have promised to challenge the election results in Congress.
