Spend some time researching investments. Shoot for 6-8% interest a year which should give ya $8,000 to 12,000 annually. Or put 100,000 into an account like that and speculate on something else with the remaining money. Hell put 3,000 into crypto and see if you can turn it into more money (I turned 3,000 into 75,000 this year) and put the rest away in sound investments. Or pay off your house or start a business. Lots of options, just play it safe

Do they still have those accounts that can only be used for child's education? They could only be used as such. Put 20 grand in each.

Buy a plot of land somewhere for 60k

Put some in ammo/gun, liquor or water filtration systems/parts stocks.

Put some in account you can grab quickly.

Keep 5-10 grand cash at home.

Put some in annuity.

You want to invest in your kids future? The best advice I can give you is to use it to buy property out in the country. That way you will have a nice piece of land to raise your kids on and when you die you will be able to pass it on.

And if the shit hits the fan you will have some land to grow your own food so your kids don't starve.

If it were me I'd find a "fee only" fiduciary. Means they get a percentage of what's invested and do NOT get paid commission to sell you things.

Again, if it were me I'd set aside 10% as "what the hell, I can do what I want with this". Pay off any credit card or car loans. Figure your monthly expenses and stash 6 months of those expenses in an immediately accessible account.

Take 5% and buy actual physical silver as a hedge against inflation.

Invest the rest.

Buy good attractive home or duplex
Right there in your city or town, that you can manage
Invest in sound rental ( look for a good school district)
Get a 30 yr mortgage ...but pay an extra payment per year toward principle and knock the loan down to 15 years...it will be paid off when your kids go to college or need money to start a business or buy a home
