The thing about the national enquirer, I remember reading about what the future held supposedly from government insiders involved in reverse engineering alien technology back in the early 70's, right about the time the first electronic calculators came out. They cost more than a smart phone does now, in 70's dollars. In other words at the time these predictions were made, a simple calculator that used a probe and contact points to do addition, multiplication, subtraction and division cost about ten times as much as a regular run of the mill android smart phone..

SO how could they predict these things with the knowledge we had at the time?

They couldn't imagine a data density and computer miniaturization to that extent, unless they had some inside knowledge. It was simply not even within our imagination at the time to imagine such things as smart phones, as evidenced by the instruments on "Star Trek" for instance, which are now way past yesterdays news, and that was supposed to take place 200 years in the future.
