When I had no family I was like, ok I'lll move ... I'll wash dishes or do whatever, get an apartment ... OP seriously, I don't know how old you are I think I read 38 that's pretty old .. but I'm 45 and your attitude is terrible. You are totally in the move-to-prosper category. The world is your fucking oyster, ffs. Seriously. Moving always costs thousands. It's tax deductible. It's what you do, for life. i have family i have 2 kids and a wife it's not about that it's about physically not having thousands of dollars to move i would even leave them here, we have discussed this idea many times, and they are fine with it i'm 37 by the way and when me and my wife decided to have kids we were making combined 90k a month, so don't give me that speech about "don't have kids when you are poor" we both got laid off when the company we worked for was shut down and we have never been able to get back to that level of income, been struggling ever since That's a different story, OP. A storage space is different from 2 kids and a wife ... that makes a huge difference. I had a husband have to go away for work and it sucked. i wouldn't mind going to the truck driving school near here and becoming an OTR driver it's 5k dollars that i don't have, not to mention the cost of getting to the school every day ( 30 mins away adds up in gas everyday ) like seriously i'm just venting my shit right now out of frustration and now with Biden in charge it just seems ultra bleak |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 79387251 United States 01/21/2021 01:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79387251 Oh goodness, Don't hire young teenage girls-- they will distract the male employees Don't hire 20 somethings-- they are going to get pregnant Don't hire 30 somethings-- they have a family to care of Don't hire 40 plus-- they are menopausal Perhaps its the inequalities and assumptions that make women crazy I think a lot of women screw themselves by assuming that they won't get hired because of their age ... which translates to childbearing or not, etc. They make themselves crazy. I got hired twice while visibly pregnant. People were shocked I was job hunting while ready to pop. It wasn't the hiring managers that were the problem, it was all the ladies saying ... "they aren't going to hire you because you'll be out for 3 months already ..." There is a lot of old school thinking going on that really doesn't apply in corporate settings anymore. It depends upon your profession-- Some are much better than others That's true. I have many unpopular opinions, and how I feel about private sector corporate life is one. I advise all the girls I know - if they have no idea what they want to do with their lives - to go to any affordable college and get a degree in whatever pleases them, and then go for whatever they can in the corporate world. HR, Accounting, IT, QC, Audit .. whatever. I've been in corporate life for 25 years, and there is no end in sight. I have co-workers pushing 80, still happily coming in, and still valued by the company. If you increase the bottom line, you are valued by the company. That's the way to go for average kids, boys and girls, who can sit still long enough. If the company/profession has government contracts then for women (and those who can check "disadvantaged" boxes) it is often better for women than for the men If your profession unfortunately doesn't have these contracts, good luck. Corporate life can be very good for many women, as they may offer maternity leave and other perks |

Were falling behind on bigger projects because we cant find enough guys to hire that will work. Quoting: Dustball because your company isn't willing to train new people i would love to learn hvac every job posting i see demands years of experience to qualify We hire guys with experience all the time. Theud rather hire a new guy so they can train them how they want. Anyone can walk in off the streets and theyve got a chance here. Nobody wants to start at the bottom and work there way up. I started at 13 bucks an hour not even 5 years ago. I make 30 an hour now. The biggest problem is the naysayers. So many people are so set in their attitudes about jobs ... "this industry only hires young" or "that industry only hires immigrants" or "they won't hire you if you are pregnant" or "walmart wont hire me, so I must be unemployable" It's 100% about whether you can add value ... are you worth more than you cost? OP is discouraged by the wording of the ads and experience of others. All you need to think about, OP, is, can I make them money? When the shit hits the fan and the end is just nigh, will you cry out to Heaven? Will you lie down and die? Not me, my dear one - THIS IS MY SACRED LIFE - to no one nor no thing I'll surrender. For how does one know where when dead she will go, or if sweet Mother Earth he'll remember? - Sug |

Quoting: SugarSand I think a lot of women screw themselves by assuming that they won't get hired because of their age ... which translates to childbearing or not, etc. Corporate life can be very good for many women, as they may offer maternity leave and other perks I'm a software engineer. I've been working in the private, corporate sector writing code for money since 1998. No government contracts. Business. People work for money. Business runs on money. I don't know what jobs BESIDES government jobs, that don't respect the bottom line more than anything. Color, gender, doesn't matter. The bottom line matters. If I didn't make them more money than I cost them, I wouldn't have a job, that's for sure. - Sug |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 79142960 United States 01/21/2021 02:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | something had changed around 1998. used to be that employers had to hold your app so many days and had to except them. Now it is all temp garbage (which is just a low hit on the working poor) that probably gets dollars for every hour of your time, other, of course from expenses that may occur just to be able to have the privilege ofholding said job. The news paper listings is for something else and has to do with record keeping, appearances of numbers and the court system use the references in your local regestry to reflect the whole fake system. it's a mess. Work for yourself, might be rough the first two years but it will get better,. Why do people hire other people to do the chores they don't want to? well I say put your bid in high if not super high. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 77526310 Finland 01/21/2021 02:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Been unemployed for about 9 months now. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79104722 Yes majority was during the covid crap. I've filled out hundreds of applications, sent my resume to hundreds of places, nada. I see the same job postings day after day. I go to places in person, i ask about job postings online. I am met with snarky attitudes, i am told that if they are interested they will call me. I am also told by some places that they are not hiring at all(despite an online job posting), or an outside company does the hiring. Fake jobs, fake life. Also I spoke with an unemployment counselor who works with the city, he told me currently there are way more people out of work than jobs available. What does this mean? hundreds if not thousands of applicants for each job, and super picky employers At this point getting a job is like winning the lottery. For me, covid has been a gift that kept giving for my business. |
