I've always had a sneaking feeling that Trump has been in a catch 22 all along. He probably did get into some weird shit back in the day, outgrew it and wants to fight it, but can't afford the WHOLE truth to come out.

His only option would be to confess, beg forgiveness, and deliver the goods on the ones who are still in it.

The reason nobody already burned him with it is they would expose themselves/others in the process.

Maybe he plans to do it and take the hit, but has to be sure to get all the others in the boat with him (the evidence) before he drops the shields.
