There’s a lot of oil that was found there recently. Turkey wants the oil and has been a bit of a bully by putting naval assets in disputed waters.

Either way it’s a fools errand in terms of oil. The profit on that oil will be negligible in overall aspects due to renewable energy etc.

Hopefully neither country is foolhardy enough to do something stupid. Hopefully some form of neutral negotiations take place to solve the dispute.

The only real issue is the oil. Which well plainly put is going to be worthless. P.S. might even prove to be an overall loss if it were put in investment terms.

I'm pretty certain that oil is not going to be worthless for a long time. Energy is not the only use for oil and it is used in every aspect of product manufacturing from plastics to chemicals and pharma. It is also still required as lubricant for all the vehicles that are in use, electrical or not. As the demand for oil goes down on the energy side, fewer companies will be investing in oil production resulting in much lower supplies. As supplies drop, costs will go up. It is a designed cycle to keep the price fluctuating between a determined min and max value but never too far in one direction.

It takes years to develop an oil drilling site. Main uses are for transportation. You are right it has other uses but we’re also slowly moving away from using it in those areas as well (plastics). In the grand scheme of things latching on to an oil reserve in aims of self sustainability will provide benefits in the short term. In the long run though real sustainable tech will prove more cost effective and the results from not investing in newer technologies will prove more detrimental.
