The story of Jesus showing himself to the disciples after his death was to teach that there is no real death for any of us, and that where he went, we will go also someday. We don’t all need to see a ghost or a returned spirit of a loved one to prove it, but for some, like Thomas, it really helps them to believe in life after death to see or receive signs from someone who has passed on.
