Something Weird Going on with States with Big Lottery Wins!!!

The payout is only like 50% of the money put into lotteries. There are so many earmarks for schools, parks, etc. taken out on lottery wagers it is a terrible return. Even a tight slot machine is a better bet.

Player on player games are best IMO. Poker (I don't play) is one of the best but you need to know how to play or you will get rolled quick.

Horse racing can be a decent return and you can have a whole group win by betting the same horses, which for me makes for the best nights out. Sports betting is going to get real big soon and is also a far better wager. Also can have group wins.

I've been to the track with noob friends who don't follow my plays and then get mad when I hit for several hundred and they lose. I look at the Racing Form, know the jockeys, trainers and horses, tell them who I like and they bet random shit hoping they can get lucky and then pretend they know as much or more than me. Yeah, they might get lucky and hit, but even I listen to other people who know what they are doing.

I'd much prefer to bet with a gaming institution than be part of anybody getting their face burned off.

Every state allows you to enter your own numbers your own choice as opposed to using the automated selection. You get a confirmation of the numbers you choose when you choose the option where you fill it out yourself.

Hah but in most ways a 0 means absence of anything, combined with the 4 digit number of 6666 your chances of getting 500, 050, or 005 are quite low... Only more curious would be if it was 666, 000, or perhaps 555. Interesting to see, anyway

Fucking this. Unless it’s under a million. The big hits above 5 million the people are cursed. It tears families to shreds they end up dead or tragic ends. If you win big you can’t keep it. It must be used for benevolence immediately. Build a library. Refurbish your town. Pay off children cancer bills. Anything but you can’t keep it.

i can think of so many other ways of picking numbers without using machines,

if i had a lottery, every week would be a new way to pick the winning numbers...

have fifty people secretly numbered in a maze.
the numbers only seen by camera by viewers like you home,
the first 6 who leave the maze, become the 6 lucky numbers...

They literally know every number combination issued 15 minutes before the "drawing" since the ticket sales are shut down 15 minutes before the "drawing". It's all electronic at the speed of light. If it wasn't rigged they'd allow ticket purchases up until the last moment. But they don't.

There was a YT vid showing a european lottery drawing where the numbers were accidentally revealed before the balls were even drawn.

Great comments!!!! My father was a big gambler when I was a kid and his favorite thing was the horses. Horses were big then, not so much now. A lot of tracks have closed down or are in bad shape. I used to sit with him and go over the Telegraph (the racing newspaper) and we'd pick out our horses. He bet, of course, but I would just pick out which ones I liked. I had a system when I was about 7 years old. Every horse player has a system, lol. And it worked!!!! More often than not, my horses won. If I'd had money on them, I would have made a nice penny.

The numbers pool frequently worked out for us too, even for my grandma. You come out with a number, maybe it's a number you play regularly like your social or phone number etc. Or like my mother, you dream up numbers - she would dream up a number and it would hit! My father would make a few hundreds off these hits and they made a significant impact to us.

I wish we could bring horse racing back as long as the horses are treated well. It's a great entertainment and people can actually make some money.

I saw people putting $700 into it routinely out East on payday and that was decades ago (eastern Connecticut, fishing town).

RI/CT border is blue collar and the lottery lines were insane. I never played it. Would be in a line 20 deep and they would open a 'non lottery' register. I'd move past 19 people and be on my way. EVERYBODY played it out there.

I get the appeal. Huge payout, can change many lives for generations. A total hero if you hit, even if you give it away. The return is so low, though. You really got no realistic shot. A total sucker bet, but if you are the 1 in a hundred million winner then Congrats, but the number of non-winners and payout rate are atrocious figures.

This thread was posted before the drawing that came AFTER the drawing where Powerball got hit last Wednesday,Jan 20th for 731 million.

And most of the comments were posted before Powerball announced the winners for the draw on the 23rd.

Powerball got hit again on the 23rd for 20 million.

There were also 43 tickets with 5/5,8 of those worth 2 million and the others worth 1 million.

also blue states are more populous on account of large cities situated there - their denizens tend to buy more tickets so need to compare winnings vs buying habits, etc
