Full Automatic style rifles were handed in, unless you had a gun license indicating you were a collector then you got to keep them. Semi-autos were fine and everyone who plays with guns knows how to make a semi-auto a full auto. You can't disarm the public. You would have to take away metal knives and forks which can be sharpened on the sidewalk to a razor edge. Cars are dangerous weapons. Explosives can be made from ingredients sold at every supermarket. Every farmer has tons of explosives as Fertilizers. You can't actually disarm your population these days. Most NZ'ers will illegal guns handed in some to give the impression they had handed in all their illegal guns. I could get any illegal gun from around the world in NZ in 40 minutes. Lots of people in out of the way places sell black-market guns smuggled in from everywhere. Russian fishermen used to trade Glocks and AK's for sewing machines. When I was a kid most of the deer hunters still used the rifle their grandad had used to shoot the Germans during the War. They could hit a man sized target from over 600 meters away. Tax revolts are more powerful than armed insurrections. |
