If Covid was an attempt by nature to eliminate us, the death toll would be in the hundreds of millions, or several billion, by now - not 2.23 million.

Here's how nature could wipe us all out with little to no notice.

When nature (and when I say nature, I'm talking about nature in a broader cosmic sense) wants to shake us off like a bad case of fleas, it would send a 30km-wide super comet on a direct collision course with us. Perhaps one of those 'out of the blue' types that we wouldn't detect and have time to seek shelter from. After the human extinction, earth would replenish itself like it did after the dinosaurs were wiped out. What about astronauts, you say? Well how long would they live for with no one back on earth to resupply them with food and water, or coordinate their arrival back?

Nature could also bring some of its dormant supervolcanos to life. Who knows, maybe all of them at once! Just Yellowstone alone erupting would cause human extinction, according to The European Science Foundation. So we would only need one to go off, but if several went off, that would guarantee no survivors.

There are other ways nature could finish us off. A big enough Coronial Mass Ejection (CME) or a virus like Stephen King's Captain Tripps from 'The Stand' (but something from nature - not 'created' in a lab).
