Re: Is 37 too old to go get my MBA?
What is the end game?

Is there a specific job you think you will get because you opened a door with the MBA?

I've known people who had MBA's and just were salesman anyway....

but it can be a qualifier for some manager positions ... but if they are sales oriented your success is really built on your sales ability not the MBA. Those guys still get whacked with bad numbers.

Re: Is 37 too old to go get my MBA?
I got mine at 52. The school debt distresses me. But I really, really enjoyed school and it did give me a higher salary.

I don't know if it was financially worth it--but it was a wonderful thing to do.

And for those that say it is too late--they just aren't old enough to have perspective.

There are definitely two sides to this coin. Choose wisely.

Re: Is 37 too old to go get my MBA?
So I’m thinking about upgrading my life. I graduated many years ago with my Undergraduate Degree from a great school. Wound up in a decent job but I feel stuck in life. I paid off my Student Loans and I live an ok life. Wife left me last year and getting tired of my job and life. I put in a ton of work and at first I got several promotions then things stopped. I feel stuck. Should I go get my MBA? I’m 37 with no kids, and no wife. The starting salaries look impressive for MBAs and I could get into a great program as I graduated with a 4.0 in my UG degree.

Definitely not too old!

Plus you can make connections that will lead to a better job. Go for it!

All power to you! You're young yet! I started my Master's in my 50s and now going for my PhD. Online degrees help do this. Our brains have plasticity. Being a lifelong learner is the key to keeping our brains active and young.

Good luck!

Not at all. Have an aunt that got her PHD in her 70's. Go for it. Education is enlightening to the soul.

You have to like it though, honestly if you're not into finance or business you'll find yourself in another boring career.

I don't know if you can get your MBA here.
.but this might help someone else...

This school is free until you get you a job. Then you pay with deductions from pay check.
I learned about it from someone who used it to get a degree for software working for Amazon.

She said it changed their lives.

MBA is mainly for changing fields. So you're the target market. Make sure it's a top top program though, that makes all the difference. If you don't get in, wait a year and apply again. You want the ones from where you can do "strategy consulting" at McKinsey, not just "management consulting" at E&Y. If you don't understand the top MBA job market, learn that first.

Again and even moreso, ONLY from a top program. Pedigree matters more than anything. Your GPA is forgotten after the first job, the name on the degree is permanent. At lower ranked law schools there's massive unemployment among graduates, and the law schools go to great lengths hide the placement results for their graduates.

No issue about the action part. The issue would be the tuiton and opportunity cost of foregone income, which may come in around $200K or higher.

No, It's not too late, especially since you don't have any responsibility to a wife or kids. Sometimes you will hear about job opportunities through the college program that you wouldn't normally hear about.

Years ago, Dear Abby or Ann Landers, wss asked by a 40 year old woman if she was too old to go to law school.

The answer was, in 3 years you will be 43. You will have a law degree or not depending on what you decide now.

I got mine right after my B.S. in Accounting to sit for the CPA exam which required a 5th year of college.

Glad I got it. But my business experience that I had while working my way through college was more educational than college. But both paid off in spades.

The answer is yes. Get it. You have nothing else to do, so go for it. That way you arent regretting anything.

It depends. If you can get scholarships to cover the tuition or at least most of it, definitely do it. If you have to get loans or pay for it all yourself, it may not be worth it.

I'm 52 and working on my Doctoral degree.

It's perfectly fine to return to school at 37.

Re: Is 37 too old to go get my MBA?
So in two years you’ll still be in your 30’s and with an MBA? Why is that a problem? You think saying that you’re 39 with a bachelors sounds more impressive than being 39 with a master’s?

You’re probably going to work another 25-30 yrs. A masters degree will help you to earn more money, many companies won’t promote you w/o a master’s.

Even if it only helped you to earn an extra 10-15k a year over 30 years that’s around 300-450k .

You’ll be 39 in 2 years regardless might as well go for it.
