Here's a glimmer of good news...

Took out my pancake style Geiger Counter and tested for Fuku radiation...

The snow is not radioactive...

did you check it for flesh eating bacteria ? this blast of water is off the gulf. corexit and shit.

at least its not radioactive. I do however enjoy glowing snowmen on a cold dark night.
 Quoting: panther0621

You both have good points there. Many have forgotten.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78090287

both should be checked for. it is very sad what is happening in the gulf. we wasted one of our best resources... it terrifyingly stupid and sad. it would have been better to leave the oil alone and normal cleanup efforts. not the GMO bacteria that has taken over the gulf.

Why am I awake? Anyway, western OK here, lights are good, so far, praying it stays that way.
Earlier I looked out the window, couldn't see, I'm thinking 'no way it's snowing that hard.' My inner intelligence says "open the window" so I listened, pile of snow fell in spilling onto the floor. See if I listen to my idiotic self again. :) Obviously couldn't see out the window because it was the North side of the house where the blowing snow was hitting. It's currently -2 F degrees Feels like -26 F. Roads are slicker than oil on a marble floor, blowing snow isn't helping. That 8 vehicle accident in OKC was more than I needed to see. Poor souls. Stay safe, and don't venture out.

^^^Not exactly true. Comments like this could cause folks to die.^^^
However, it’s important to not run the vehicle if the tailpipe is blocked by snow or ice. Carbon monoxide can be deadly, so if the tailpipe can’t be unblocked, don’t run the vehicle. Wrap yourself in blankets and put on extra clothing if available. Even if the tailpipe isn’t blocked, don’t run the heater constantly as this can drain fuel. Intermittently turn it on to warm up but also crack open a window just to make sure there aren’t deadly fumes gathering inside the vehicle.

Yes. A few yrs back, 3 young women died from carbon monoxide poisoning after they tried to run their car during the late night hours in the Squaw Valley parking lot in a snowstorm. With heavy snowfall, the tailpipe became encased in snow and the exhaust fumes inevitably made their way into the passenger compartment of the car.

A very sad tragedy.

Statistically the real danger in cold weather (besides exposure) is traffic incidents and fire.

Lots of people are going to be hooking up space heaters through five extension cords and all other kinds of dumb shit.

Stay home and use common sense. If you got an old 1979 Sears space heater you are about to hook up through a daisy chain of cat chewed 2 pronged Christmas lights to heat up your bathroom you prolly gonna have a bad day.

Use yer noggin. That’s why God gave you one.

2021 has shown it's brutal cold to so many people. I know it's Winter and expected. But the snow has been off the charts in some places!

Stay warm peeps. Layer up. Stay indoors to keep warm. But get some fresh air inbetween.
 Quoting: MissInformed

It's not really cold.

It was literally zero degrees in the 1970s.

You people are such cowards.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79015725

I lived through the 70s too. We used to get snowed in every winter. For years. Shovelling our way out the door. Proper seasons. The weather has changed over the years. Space weather affects our weather.
 Quoting: MissInformed

yES. 71 or 72, I remember turner turnpike being closed but taking it from OKC heading to fayetteville ar. 66 mustang, new michelins, white knuckle grip on steering wheel, when a charger blew by me, sliding sideways this way and then that way and then this way again. He was truckin. Never saw him again.
I don't have the time or the crayons to explain this to you.

Most important that the vehicle is pointed into the wind. The exhaust system is built to carry fumes out the back as you drive forward. However, if you are parked with the wind coming from the rear that is when you will die from carbon monoxide.

Ours only stayed off for about an hour this morning, and then it came back on. Luckily, it has held steady. I'm furious about these blackouts. There was no warning and my friend was in the middle of dialysis at her house :(

They are going to kill people. It's too dangerous to do these rolling blackouts with zero warning. For people like me, it's an inconvenience, but for the sick and elderly, it is a death sentence. I'm so mad.
