Do not go in your car to get warm. If you fall asleep snow can cover you tailpipe and you will die. If you lose power gather all in one room as people and animals. load up on blankets. it will be fine. i live much more north than you and this is what happens sometimes if not worse for us.

This is completely untrue. Your car exhaust is HOT. It melts snow. If it did somehow “clog” with snow the engine would simply die, not you.

However, it’s important to not run the vehicle if the tailpipe is blocked by snow or ice. Carbon monoxide can be deadly, so if the tailpipe can’t be unblocked, don’t run the vehicle. Wrap yourself in blankets and put on extra clothing if available. Even if the tailpipe isn’t blocked, don’t run the heater constantly as this can drain fuel. Intermittently turn it on to warm up but also crack open a window just to make sure there aren’t deadly fumes gathering inside the vehicle.

Yes. A few yrs back, 3 young women died from carbon monoxide poisoning after they tried to run their car during the late night hours in the Squaw Valley parking lot in a snowstorm. With heavy snowfall, the tailpipe became encased in snow and the exhaust fumes inevitably made their way into the passenger compartment of the car.

A very sad tragedy.

I lived through the 70s too. We used to get snowed in every winter. For years. Shovelling our way out the door. Proper seasons. The weather has changed over the years. Space weather affects our weather.

OG&E has suspended the order for planned outages across the area saying conservation efforts are working according to tweets by several staffers at our news partner, KFOR.

The situation is fluid and the decision could be reserved in the future if needed.

Yeah, I don't really understand why this is a thing. I thought running water would keep the pipes from freezing, so I thought I was doing a good thing. Ah well. At least I have a ton of clean laundry now and the world is still intact - I think?

We are getting rolling blackouts up here and in the latest emails I'm getting from the electric and gas companies they are saying not to run washing machines, but they are saying it is to conserve power. Other than that, I wouldn't know why else we couldn't run them.

People in towns within 5 minutes of mine have no power. Ours keeps flickering and it was off for over an hour at one point but came back on.

I have two tropical parrots. Most secondary heat is fatal to them.
