Anonymous Coward User ID: 80043033 United States 02/19/2021 03:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have a house in Houston. I was away on business and could not get there in time to set up my generator to heat the house when the power went out Sunday. Two days went by with no power or heat and by Tuesday the hot and cold water pipes above my laundry room burst. My wife was home and managed to get the water shut off. Not too much damage but no water for two days. Quoting: Perma-Banned I was able to get home Tuesday evening to start the generator and spent all day Wednesday mopping water and keeping the generator going between the rolling blackouts. Thursday I found a plumber doing work on my street and he was able to cap off the washer lines that burst and restore water to the rest of the house. Almost every house on our street had a pipe break. The plumber that helped us has now since fixed 6 houses within 100 yards of me. The grocery stores have lots of expensive wine left and just about nothing else. Drinking water, produce and meat are non-existant!!! Going to the store now to see what they have. Will report back... thank you for your citizen reporting and great vibe inspite of burst pipes. God bless you and yours and God bless Texas |

Pipes froze once but I thawed them out and added insulation Stores are bare here because of the panicking sheep. No idea what all the fuss is about. Was outside riding 4 wheelers around the neighborhood with my kids every day during this. Had a freaking blast. Modern people are complete pussies. Ive taken my family camping in 10 degree weather and my wife or children never complained about the cold. Yes we slept in a tent. No heat. |

They had enough firewood to make it through. Cooked in the fireplace and BBQ grill out back. Pipes fine. 3 bored children were her biggest problem. I have seen photos from Killeen that show empty grocery shelves and even one Facebook post offering $20 for a gal of milk. $20!? I should have taken a screenshot. It was posted in a Facebook group - Killeen Buy and Sell (or something like that). “If we are peaceful, if we are happy, we can smile and blossom like a flower, and everyone in our family, our entire society, will benefit from our peace.” Thich Nhat Hanh, Being Peace "But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you." - Job 12:7,8 "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." - Hunter S. I was able to shower last night and this morning, the water pressure is still low but better. I filled my car up with gas yesterday morning.,Wednesday after work I tried but the lines were a mile long or the stations were already sold out. I have heard the grocery stores care running low on food, hopefully by the weekend they will be better. It was a cold few days without power. I am originally from Louisiana so I am used to going through ice storms and losing power for days at a time. |
Vasily User ID: 80055863 United States 02/19/2021 03:51 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Doing quite well, thank you. In a rural area in South Texas. Power was only out for 5 or 6 hours one day. We set up a couple of generators to run a few things at the time. Temperature inside the house did not go below 60 degrees. Water well has been working fine after we set up some protection from the elements. It's a beautiful day outside right now. |

Windsage User ID: 79526427 United States 02/19/2021 03:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thankfully, I never lost power. In central Texas. Our local utility company has an outage map on their website. It said 20,000 customers (about 1/3 their total # of customers) didn't have power almost the entire 3-4 days. Now that the weather is over they updated to show that only 2500 customers actually lost power at any time. Quoting: Fizarak The streets were bad at first, because we don't salt the roads or have snow plows or anything. It's a once every 50-years style event, but honestly it wasn't <that> bad. Not like what a 50 year flood would have done. That said, I'm sure there are 10s of thousands who are without power, water or had stuff ruined from busted pipes. People are acting like it's 10x worse than it is though. Media fear campaign - they found the emotion they are easiest able to manipulate and they won't let go until it stops working. I remember when I was living near Sacramento in the late 90's. There was flooding in the area and on the news it looked like Armageddon. We went for a drive to see for ourselves and could only find a few intersections that were underwater. |

We have a boil water alert due to low water pressure. Was able to go to the sore yesterday and got most of what I needed- most shelf items had some availability. I have a lot of stored food, so didn't want/need much. As expected- low availability of bottled water, but I have stored water for emergency. One health food store was giving away 5 gallons of free filtered water- a line for that went all through the store. Hoping for no burst water pipes- so far so good, but the real test will come as temps continue to go up. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 14385938 United States 02/19/2021 04:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Grateful to have day after day of hauling buckets of hot water out to the horses and goats behind us. We worked our butts off to keep them hydrated during such cold weather. It got down to negative 2 degrees. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14385938 Kept the fireplace going constantly, up in the middle of the night to keep it going and so lucky to have it. During some days we'd have 10 minutes of power every 4 hours or so. You get real quick to get a kettle of boiled water, meal in the microwave and phone charged up and electric blanket started heating up to have every bit of good possible. Water pipe in the workshop is busted and flooded and ruined several hundred pounds of feed and lots of other stuff I don't know about yet. So I'm going to have to move water troughs around so that I can fill them from elsewhere. We have goats due to kid starting today so really glad they held off. Had a horse fall through the stock pond trying to get water. It was frozen and useless, normally they can get a place started and be able to drink... not this time. Grateful we saw the horse soaked and shivering and got him dried off as well as we could and he's fine. So I'm grateful. Worried about the water pipes but my horses are okay. The biggest one jumped on the couch and refused to get off. It was 45 years ago and I can still hear that pig squealing. Believe me... we've had goats in the house, plenty. We had one little doeling who had nearly died from cold and she quickly learned how to jump onto my bed. I awakened to her sleeping on the pillow. That little goat never once went potty in the house. She was smart. Or we were just that good at taking her outside often to do her business. |

Red Rider User ID: 79310585 United States 02/19/2021 04:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | One of the lucky never lost power but we distributed most of our supplies to neighbors in need. Most all have power now. I think this morning 180,000 were still without power in North Texas or DFW. Highways are completely clear, surface streets are still very icy after losing the snow top due to melting. Temps in 40's tomorrow should melt the rest. Grocery stores last night were cleaned out of the usual items: water, meat, dairy, soft drinks, chips, bread, cans, anything not needing heat to eat, looked like early days of covid. People were helping others find what they needed by posting where items were in stock. Water back on yesterday for Arlington, boil if consuming still in effect until probably tomorrow. There are the rare situations where people still don't have power or water. The stories of people's outrageous power bills are because those people had variable rate plans or Griddy. Most have fixed rate contracts. |
