Wordsie busted out the time machine.... again.... oh my Gods.... Flatten The Curve....

It’s. Back.

Can a fourth wave of COVID-19 be prevented? Not likely, says Fred Hutch model — but the curve could be flattened

Less than 50%

Almost 700 cases involving new strains have been diagnosed in 34 states, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said in a briefing Monday. A new analysis of genetic sequences suggests infections caused by the variant are doubling every 10 days.

Oh Iowa ... love me some Monday numbers....

238 confirmed in the past 24 hours

I love how they phrase the small uptick in hospitalizations....”it remains under 200”. I want to know the numbers of folks that go back or are. In the hospital for new issues ... post covid19.

Because there is a twatwaffle that thinks I am low enough to post as an AC... let’s put down some nasty facts about....

Yes, Most infected people don’t show symptoms.... hence the modeling fight currently going on in the research community.

Next.... MOST folks are infectious BEFORE symptoms are present. And many won’t even notice they were infected.

Transmission & Isolation

Less than 50%

In summary: Knowledge is evolving on the duration of infectivity of patients with COVID-19; current data suggests people begin to transmit SARS-CoV-2 a few days prior to symptom onset, that non-immune-compromised hosts with non-critical illness are unlikely to be infectious 10 days after symptom onset and that individuals with critical illness or significant immune compromise are unlikely to be infectious 15 days after symptom onset. Peak transmission likely occurs around symptom onset, when viral RNA load is at its highest. While prolonged viral RNA shedding can occur, in most cases SARS-CoV-2 cannot be cultured after 8-12 days; whether viral culture directly correlates to a lack of infectivity is not known, but epidemiologic data suggests it may be a reasonable surrogate marker.

know the feeling well. family thinks we are crazy and "lives" as they put it. we have been in PPE for bout a year. hardly go out except what is needed.then come home and go thru rituals of wiping stuff down, bleach baths, etc. WTF. visited nobody since holidatys 2019.

hence my questions as to a logical explanation behind the case # drops. we do have to consider the possability that we were all hoaxed. sure it is too early to say that but we do need to consider it. sure is making us look foolish.

sux. for now we stay in PPe and on course.same rituals.i figure at least 6-12 more mths.and that is barring anything else happening, which we think will. variants.

even the local news medics earlier said" the more that get vaccinated and with everyone else in masks and social distancing, the virus will have no hosts and just die off." that explanation points more to a hoax than the reality as we see it here.

just defies logic.guess we will know by BIDEN's 100 days.
 Quoting: JAZZz50

A hoax of this global magnitude would be unprecedented in human history, and would require cooperation from government leaders worldwide, which would also be unprecedented, and would lastly require several thousand people who would have to be in on the hoax to keep their mouths shut, which is not only unprecedented, it's impossible.

The logistics required to pull off a hoax like this pretty much rule out the possibility of it being a hoax.

Re: Sars Cov 2 … the grinder continues to eat away at resources and humanity.
Just to summarize my thoughts of why things related to the pandemic can only worsen steadily but at a rate that most people can’t notice enough to get alarmed due to their normalcy bias:

- cases have lowered, but still remain high, so the virus remains a threat.
- New Strains keep appearing and are spreading more or less fast depending on how international travel and local regulations allow, but due to people’s selfishness and idiocy, they will keep spreading.
- Re infection is proven, and the capacity of the vaccines to hinder re infection is just wishful thinking.
- Re infection is as lethal or even slightly more lethal than first infection.
- The vast proportion of the population is tired of doing anything to avoid the spread and just want things “back to normal”, this is only helping increase the speed of spread of new strains. This yearn for normalcy and the tendency to think that the pandemic is over, is the single major factor that will keep things going on and waves of cases and deaths repeating for the foreseeable future.
- Is not a one death blow to civilization but a slow bleeding out that won’t allow things to get better in years to come. People prefer to cling to any hope than accept this harsh reality.
-edit to add: One effect that vaccinated people can have is the possibility furthering the number of cases as they become for all intent and purposes equivalent to asymptomatic cases. The so called “vaccination passport” then could even worse the spread of new strains carried by “vaccinated people” traveling around. This is something that really few people are aware of.

Fearing Covid-19 Surge, Florida Officials Crack Down on Spring Breakers
Miami Beach beefs up rules on social distancing, alcohol and noise; ‘Go to Vegas’

Less than 50%

Though many colleges have canceled spring break to prevent students from congregating in vacation spots, officials here are expecting a large influx over the coming weeks. Flights and hotels are cheap. Brutal winter storms in much of the country left people yearning for an escape. And Florida’s pandemic rules on bars and nightclubs are more lenient than those in many states.

“We could potentially see a truly outsized spring break at a time when the last thing we want are major gatherings,” said Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber, a Democrat. He cited public-health specialists’ concerns that such crowds could generate another surge of Covid-19 cases.

Good evening. Wishing everyone a happy Monday and a happy week from a moderately mild Moscow. The latest numbers are in. Russia has a total of 4 257 650 cases, which is 11 571 more than last time. Of those 3 823 074 people have recovered and 86 455 people have passed away.

Things here are as lousy as ever, applied to some Norwegian Unis for the second time in two years. Maybe this time I can raise enough to get me out of this misery in Russia.

Okay.... I have less a concern..... besides folks wanting this theory to be researched....

Most medical and research science folks agree..... coronaviruses don’t work that way of constant exposure as a route to immunity.

Oh man.... not sure what irks me more.... the vaccine circular argument or the above.....

Genomic Evidence of In-Flight Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 Despite Predeparture Testing

Less than 50%

That 3 passengers had positive test results on day 3 of their 14-day quarantine period indicates some of the complexities of determining the value of predeparture testing, including the modality and timing of any such testing. Although not definitive, these findings underscore the value of considering all international passengers arriving in New Zealand as being potentially infected with SARS-CoV-2, even if predeparture testing was undertaken, social distancing and spacing were followed, and personal protective equipment was used in-flight.

Just a decent study read (French children hospitalized)... small sample. Still important.

Factors Associated With Severe SARS-CoV-2 Infection

Less than 50%

A posteriori and on the basis of the final diagnosis recorded by the physicians and hospital treatments, we distinguished 4 different clinical patterns:

Pattern 1: paucisymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection with no hospital treatment required, admitted for clinical surveillance (n = 148, 37%). Three of these paucisymptomatic children were admitted in February in a PICU to be isolated according to local guidelines, without any other criteria of intensive care requirement.

Pattern 2: SARS-CoV-2 infection requiring hospital care (n = 158 cases, 40%), with 3 main forms of COVID-19 described: (1) lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI) (n = 95 of 158, 60%), (2) digestive form (n = 24 of 158, 15%), and (3) isolated fever (n = 28 of 158, 18%). We classified children according to the physicians’ clinical assessment describing the severity of each organ involvement (oxygenotherapy requirement, intravenous rehydration, etc). Physicians also defined a primary diagnosis, which allowed for classification in the respiratory or digestive form. Other forms (n = 11 of 158, 7%) are detailed in Supplemental Table 5.

Pattern 3: multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) was defined by persistent fever, presence of laboratory markers of inflammation, manifestation of signs or symptoms of organ dysfunction, lacking an alternative diagnosis,27 and, as for the other patients included in this cohort, a positive RT-PCR nasopharyngeal result for SARS-CoV-2 (MIS-C, n = 29, 7%).

Pattern 4: hospitalization for another disease and COVID-19 was not the final diagnosis (n = 62 cases, 16%). Some of these were admitted children tested for COVID-19 as part of hospital-wide surveillance. The most frequent diagnoses were surgical pathology and urinary tract infection. Each diagnosis is detailed in Supplemental Table 6.

Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura in a Patient With SARS-CoV-2 and Epstein-Barr Virus

Less than 50%

The sequence of events in this case suggested that the patient had secondary ITP due to underlying COVID infection and perhaps co-infection with EBV given the positive EBV early immunoglobulin G (IgG) as mentioned earlier. There was no way to definitively attribute the ITP to either infection; both viruses likely played a role in the patient developing ITP. Despite being infected with COVID-19, the patient never developed any respiratory distress and remained on room air throughout admission. She never developed any spontaneous bleeding or other major sequelae of ITP. This case highlights the importance of investigating all possible secondary causes of ITP. In summary, primary ITP is diagnosed when the evaluation does not reveal other potential etiologies for thrombocytopenia. Secondary ITP is diagnosed in patients with ITP and an underlying associated condition.
