Wordsworth I don't know anyone who has been sick aside from COVID. I usually would have had a sinus infection by now, I used to get one per year, other than that I can't really remember being sick aside from one time about 10 years ago I had something that got in my lungs and dragged my down for a couple of weeks. Me. I am regular sick. I have a ripping sinus infection right now. In the past month it has been 7 degrees, 76 degrees, a foot of snow and ice, mosquitoes and crickets, Ice Storm warnings then tornado watches. We are getting what we call here the "3rd winter" which will give way to "The Pollen". So, a lot of people I know have sinusitis at the moment. Luckily, I stocked up on antibiotics and sinus meds. I know what you mean about the sinusitis...hate it. Battling an onset right now. Hope you feel better EG. Hope you both get some breaks soon. The pressure sucks. |

[link to www.cogconsortium.uk (secure)] Explainer Persistent SARS-CoV-2 infection and viral evolution tracked in an immunocompromised patient Here, the virus was detected in 23 samples from the same patient over a period of 101 days from the first positive test The virus population identified from this patient did not mutate detectably over the first 65 days, possibly due to two courses of the antiviral drug remdesevir, the action of which is through the inhibition of virus replication. The patient did not improve and was given three treatments with convalescent plasma, two on day 65 and one on day 95, that failed to clear the virus infection. Following each convalescent plasma treatment important changes in the virus genome were observed, with the emergence of a viral variant bearing two mutations in the Spike protein: a two amino acid deletion (at positions 69-70) and one amino acid replacement in position 796 (D796H). These may be important changes because the Spike protein is used by the virus to bind host cells and is targeted by most of the antibodies from COVID-19 recovered plasma and vaccines. The Spike 69-70 deletion has been observed many times in circulating viruses. :) :) - yes TWO smileys, because I'm feeling like that. Bump!! |

Jonathan Li, a virologist and an author of that case study, says his group also found multiple mutations, but they didn’t understand the implications until later.
