Re: Two boeing jets suffer extremely rare engine failure within days of one another ... were the jets ‘Hacked’ ?
In any event, attacking an airplane in the air is far more challenging than, say, attacking fixed infrastructure like a power grid. Santamarta said, “Critical infrastructure in motion, such as aircraft or vessels, usually requires a different kind of communications channel.” He suggested that an airplane’s satellite communications or other radio links “can be leveraged to launch attacks.”

The use of those potentially vulnerable satellite communications channels has significantly increased in the last five years. Airliner navigation is moving from ground-based radar to GPS systems connecting the cockpit directly to satellites, particularly at critical parts of a flight during takeoff and landing. In-flight WiFi in cabins also links to satellites, creating another opening for a hacker to use to enter the airplane.

Its hydrogen sulfide pluming from the oceans, has nothing to do with the engines.

It seems like a coordinated terror attack meant to take out several planes at once.

I take his point to mean the word 'Boeing' should not have been in the headline of the middle article?? Unless Boeing owned the planes, or built the engines, it kinda looks like a smear campaign on that company.

It's the Pratt & Whitney 4000 series engines, the RR and GE ones are still ok to fly.

Something to do with hollow fan blades I think.

There was an incident in Japan as well in December.

Im thinking this.

They want people to stay in place now more than ever. They do NOT want people exploring, taking trips, enjoying life. Their mission is the opposite of that.

Yes, there was a problem with one in Japan in December too as well as this one Saturday in Europe which is not really reported in the US media.

Same Pratt 4000 engines, bits flying off.

this is what happens when you buy cheap crap engines. there's a reason planes go for rolls royce engines. because they are the best

Re: Two boeing jets suffer extremely rare engine failure within days of one another ... were the jets ‘Hacked’ ?
Pentagon officials have increasingly been talking about weapon cyber vulnerabilities and the need for companies “harden” their products. In August, the Washington Post reported that Air Force-sponsored hackers had found cyber vulnerabilities in the F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet.

Hackers can get into military and commercial aircraft, vehicles, and even missiles and bombs by infecting them with malware — say, by plugging an infected cell phone into one of the aircraft’s USB ports, or even wirelessly, Fry said.

Buchanan hacked Fry’s helicopter by injecting malicious code wirelessly from a tablet. The code caused the helicoper’s engines to shut down. While Fry was able to disable the helicopter's wireless receiver before hitting the ground, he was not able to stop its fall.

Aircraft turbines can misfire with disastrous results. It also depends on how conscientious maintenance crews are in following procedure. Maintenance crews can make or break an airline as well as kill many people.
