That actually was the stated intent of the income tax, to tax the richest people for the income they make from investing their money.

Of course it turned into a wage tax that takes money from the middle and lower class of wage earners and the rich find a work around to not pay.

I wonder OP if you came up with a business idea. Spent years perfecting it...gambled everything...lived in poverty and fear sometimes no electric or hot water, avoiding debt collectors until it took off and then boom...your making 5 mil a month...if you would feel comfortable having a government telling you anything over $10 mil will be taken from you and given to people who hate you having wealth and wish to be gifted some of it because they are too lazy to get off their lazy ass.
