The bouncing star of the southwest sky
I've been seeing this for several weeks. it seems to be there between about 10 p.m. to midnight give or take a bit, mountain standard time. looking southwest. I only noticed because the skies where I live tend to be washed out from all the city lights and this was bright and I wanted to see if it twinkled, if it was a planet or star. Looks twinkly to me, but as I was watching, it suddenly started moving irradically, bouncing up, down back forth, circular in a very pronounced manner. You just have to keep staring at it a few seconds and it will start. it's a little past midnight here and I went to see if it's still there. it was smaller than before and maybe faded away by now but whenever I happen to check on it late at night, I usually see it and it always behaves in the same manner. I don't know any planets or stars that bounce. Anybody else?

Venus. It appears to bounce, spin and twinkle like a disco ball.

That's because is a ship and not a planet or a star.
We live in an upside down world.

If they were holding that camera still, that is how it appeared as I watched. How peculiar, thanks

So, I'm searching about venus bouncing and spinning and so forth, and I'm not really finding anything. they talk about the strange orbit, but I'm not talking about that. the dang thing bounces like a ball, then goes the other way back and forth. It's a lot easier to believe it's a space ship.

Re: The bouncing star of the southwest sky
I've been seeing it since about September last year.

The weird thing is, you're in the US and I'm in Aus, but I ALSO see it in the South -> South West.

I live in a rural area with very little light pollution, so the stars are clear and bright.
One night, around 8pm, I happened to be outside and noticed the light moving. As soon as I focused on it, it stopped.
The breeze was blowing the tree branches, so I figured it must have been an illusion.
However, as I watched it, laughing at myself, it started moving again.

Nobody I've told about it, believes me. Only two people have witnessed it with me, after I twisted their arms to come out and see for themselves.

First time I saw it, it was almost directly South, low on the horizon. I could go outside EVERY night, anytime between 7PM and 11PM and within 5 minutes, it would "fade in".

Around the New Year, I couldn't see it anymore.

I stared seeing it again about 3 weeks ago, this time, in the South-South-West, but between midnight and 4AM.

Unfortunately, I don't have a camera that can capture the moon, let alone such a small bit of light.
I've been hoping someone else has seen this thing too. Still keeping my fingers crossed that we can get video of this thing.

No, it doesn't bounce like Venus.
What is referred to as the bounce of Venus is an optical illusion. The "bounce" is small.
Also, Venus is the Morning/Evening Star, and not visible in the middle of the night.

The way this thing moves is more like a glide.
It will shoot upwards, then hang, weave/glide left to right, make a few spirals, sometimes fast, sometimes slow.
I haven't discerned a pattern yet, even after months of observation.
It moves erratically and unpredictably. Sometimes you can stare at it for 10 minutes and it won't move. At other times it won't stop moving for 10 minutes.

I hope we're seeing the same thing, OP.
It's been driving me nuts, lol.

No frame of reference?

It's an observation of an unknown, unexplained phenomena.
You've been given:
Direction in Sky
Time of Observation
Behavior of Object

What kind of reference would you like?

Nobody in this thread said they have a definitive answer or have the secrets of the universe.

OP asked if anyone had observed the same phenomena.
Someone suggested it could be Venus.
I posted that I observe it as well, but it can't be Venus, because the time frame makes it impossible.

Add something constructive and take your MLP fetish elsewhere.
