Quoting: AceGuy 79197921 I was 5 years old when I watched full metal jacket... a Kubrick movie.. I didn't get the story... I didn't understand it was about the Vietnam war. I didn't understand that this is what most late war recruits went through in boot camp. I didn't understand it was boot camp. I didn't understand why Hartmann was saying the things he was saying. I didn't fully understand what Hartmann was saying. All I learned is to talk like sergeant Hartmann, at McDonalds in a mostly Black shopping mall in Philadelphia. It also doesn't mean that some who watch it, are even watching it with the intention on getting the messages. These are adult messages and stories... That is even too much sometimes for most adults. Not all Kubrick movies, just like not all Nicholas Cage movies, or not all Jack Nicholson movies are well received.. To a some older people.. one flew over the Cuckoos nest is a PTSD disaster. :) Mr Samuel Colt |

Most people who don't want to understand the real underlying story, just absolutely looove the soundbite quotes. It's like the ultimate cheeseball war b-movie that is also Oscar worthy. |

And how about where we were, got us to where we are. And where we could be, if we allow it to become. I think that's an impressive way for a man to spend his life. I don't buy it. I always took it as arrogance i.e. "I know something you don't know" and "I'm in the loop but you're not" |
