Oh look I was right. Buoy alerts don't mean anything.

Raw data is where the beans get laid

You don't get it, do ya? When the floor under the ocean moves one-tenth of a meter upward, or downward . . . . ALL the water immediately above that movement, is set in motion. ALL OF IT.

So if the earthquake happens, as in this case, where the ocean depth is about 5500 Meters, then ALL 5500 METERS immediately above the movement, gets set into motion.

As that column of water moves toward shore, the water get more shallow, so the 5500 meter column of water, starts building-up upon itself.

When it makes landfall, it may only be a foot taller than usual, but that one foot of water will keep coming inland, non-stop, for about twenty minutes. It does this at Tsunami speed of about 500 mph, so anything in its way, doesn't fare well.

So you just go right on thinking that a buoy bouncing up and down is nothing, and make sure you're sitting on the beach when the actual tsunami hits, so you can experience first-hand your own ignorance.
