I would like a civil, informed, educated response. If the purpose of universal background checks is to prevent convicted felons from using a loophole in the law to purchase firearms, why is that a bad thing? I'm assuming most responsible, law-abiding firearm owners do not support the possession of firearms by violent convicted felons, yet any attempt by the government to close loopholes where they can bypass a background check and purchase a firearm is somehow translated into "They're coming to take our guns!!!!!" I do not understand that thought process. Full disclaimer: I am a Libertarian and a Constitutionalist, and I believe *any* gun law restricting access to firearms by US citizens violates the 2nd Amendment. I believe if you want to restrict convicted felons from possessing firearms, you have to amend the Second Amendment to do it legally.
