Anonymous Coward User ID: 79498103 United States 03/09/2021 07:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | 75% of the jobs created in February were waiters and bartenders. This is insanity. We don't need minimum wage jobs, which honestly these are WORSE as their tips offset their hourly wages. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 48551132 We need INDUSTRIAL jobs. Lest you think someone can always get a job in healthcare, RNs today make 30% than they did in the eighties based on inflation. They can hardly get people to become RNs because of it. The same is true of physicians. They make 30% less because of reduced reimbursement due to managed care. Many physicians said fuck it as running a parctice is too expensive and became hospitalists. If a job can be replaced by a robot when it's cost effective, it's not a job. It's a placeholder. Jobs for jobs sake is silly. I'm sure there are MANY things that would be better produced in the US but after that ... then what? Those are only so many jobs. Industrial automation is a red herring. Things have been automated and mechanized since the dawn of time. The problem is that a huge portion of US jobs have been sent overseas, leaving a large pool of unemployed to compete for whatever is left. "jobs" look at what you typed who the hell wants a job that a 6 year old chinese kid or a robot can do??? Ask your father or your two grandfathers why they took those jobs. |
SugarSand (OP) User ID: 77504359 United States 03/09/2021 07:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ... Quoting: SugarSand There's nothing in between. Removal of factory jobs for the masses has created a glut of "highly skilled professionals" to the extent that the majority of those degreed jobs now pay garbage salaries. Go to school for 4 years, get out with an accounting degree to get paid $17/hr with $100K in student loan debts that must be paid, outrageous required healthcare costs, outrageous rents, and compete against foreign H1Bs for US jobs while already in a saturated market. The alternative is to work in the service sector or trades there really is nothing else. The largest employment sector before the 2000s was factory work! my father died in a factory my grandfathers died about 6-10 months after stopping factory there are so many factory jobs ... i just don't want my kids to die at work like their grandpas when i was in college, my dad's union had a program where we could work there and get paid union wages i did it three summers the whole idea of the program was to keep us in college everyone uses accounting and english ... the fact of the matter is anyone who wants to wake up and work a 9-5 can get a corporate job (not the best, but a job) for MUCH LESS RISK than their factory counterparts ... with any degree that's a fact but we can talk about it more Unfortunately, I think you're living in 1980. Even half the entry level corporate desk monkey jobs now want masters degrees just to get an interview. The fact is, there are not enough "degreed professional" jobs to go around and there never have been. Most people worked menial task labor jobs their entire lives until about 20 years ago. Every single professional position out there has 500 qualified applicants. The only reason most of these people have degrees to begin with is they were pushed to do so for lack of industrial jobs. No way. I was 5 years old in 1980. I'm not going to argue that a lot of "professions" are not nonsense, though. I've been automating accountants out of work since 1998. I dunno maybe bc im a kid from a CRAZY city in NJ where we grew up on the streets and we had to scrap for everything, so I'm scrappy. I think nothing of automating the business processes of an entire accounting or QA or HR or whatever department. That's the GOAL. That's what we worked for since the industrial revolution. More leisure, less work. I just wish the politics would keep up! Last Edited by SugarSand on 03/09/2021 07:20 PM When the shit hits the fan and the end is just nigh, will you cry out to Heaven?
