It's the reason why people won't learn, won't change, won't forgive and they remain frustrated, angry, bitter, ignorant, unhappy.. Humility is powerful It makes sense as a panacea for mental illness I know it's true for depression Depressed people have turned inward, which explains why many want to lay down and die.. no greater cause.. no greater connections of love with others.. One of skitzo friends is quite arrogant and confident often regard chain of events that has no basis in reality and resulting in his own downfall, still, he persists. Being healthy mental wise, and consider myself humble I can attest to being decisive when confronted with stupidity. Life Is But a Dream |

Quoting: All My Hemispheres Out of the hundreds of hours of lectures, this is the most valuable thing I heard him say. As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Peterson would listen to and engage a person's problems for weeks and months and years. When he finally got to deepest cause, his clients had one thing in common: arrogance. The deepest cause of their problems was arrogance. He said this was true for nearly all his patients. Arrogance had grown inside them and prevented them from connecting with others and prevented them from connecting with the deepest parts of themselves. Arrogance had strangled them from growth and meaning. I still am floored by the implications this. Could it be that we are our own worst enemy and there really is a simple (but not easy) solution to many problems? Is humility the silver bullet for mental health issues? APA hint: There is no such thing as mental disease. We really enjoy tracking what you stare at in your reality show cubes. |

Or people who sacrificed all meals and coffee out, vacations, new clothes and home decor etc. to pay him for therapy. & He's going to call them arrogant? I don't know about that. Incidentally, did you hear he became addicted to benzos and the hospital diagnosed him with schizophrenia? No such thing as benzo withdrawal existed. He had to leave the country for real help. Now, a humble person would had just accepted the schizophrenia diagnosis! |

This started with the masses in 1967 with I'm OK, You're OK. It progressed to the next generation and everyone getting trophies for participation. But many of those individuals never learned that there is a disconnect between how they feel about themselves - what they feel they are entitled to - and the real world. So on the one hand you have the arrogance, and on the other you have the scared little person who thinks they can't measure up and somebody is going to find out they are a fraud. In short - there comes the mental illness - the NPDs, the BPDs... I once said that it's OK for a kid to feel "lower than dirt on a sow's belly" and almost got crucified for it. LOL! Of course, you can't leave them down there, but they have to learn to take responsibility for their own actions and fix what can be fixed, admit they are wrong, apologize. Nobody today wants to own their mistakes, preferring to pass the buck, and that stunts them in the long run. |

Pride, ego, and greed make us the worst kind of person when we have no balance and respect for life, ours and others. That is our problem that brings us down--- every time! All you have to do is look at 'real history' and you realize this. The smartest men that founded this Nation--- had a strong belief in God. Therefore, they understood where there strengths ended and a spiritual understanding was necessary to sustain a hard life. I was making my life hard because of these bad decisions. When I let my spiritual life lead, and let God be my guide, my needs were met. My life was more manageable. Not easier by any means. Just more manageable. Living has taught me one thing; nothing is certain...except salvation through Jesus Christ! |

Quoting: All My Hemispheres So what is some practical advice to reduce self importance? Having a 'working with others' mentality rather than a 'power over others' mentality. Arrogance and Pride are the original sin. Lucifer was destroyed because of this. God cannot work with a proud heart. Only when a person admits their faults and weaknesses can God begin to turn them back to the truth. A person who thinks they know everything is incapable of learning. Yes... Accountability is coming. Those in authority and positions of trust will be held to a stricter judgment. From the highest offices of government, to the lowly Internet Forum Moderator. My best advice to them is to stop censoring those who tell the truth, and stop enabling the dishonest. |
