A Bit Harsh ? - Arkansas governor signs bill allowing medical workers to refuse treatment to LGBTQ patients
We can't be far from a full-on holy/sexual/thought/etc. war.

How long until laws are passed against religion, specific or general ?

How long until medical workers can choose which treatments for any situation ?

You see this is headed towards a totalitarian state that makes every decision about everything ?

Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson on Friday signed into law legislation allowing doctors to refuse to treat someone because of religious or moral objections, a move opponents have said will give providers broad powers to turn away LGBTQ patients and others.

The measure says health care workers and institutions have the right to not participate in non-emergency treatments that violate their conscience. The new law won’t take effect until late this summer.

Hutchinson opposed a similar measure in 2017 that failed before a House committee. But he said the law he signed was narrower and limits the objections to particular health care services, not treating specific types of people.

They already do pick and choose what they will do for you...

Trust me when I say that whatever the policy supposedly says, doctors and etc are allowed way too much latitude in deciding who gets what etc.

So um, you guys go about your daily duties at work asking who's straight, who's gay, who's LBGTQIELDKSLK?

IF someone is sick in front of you, wouldn't you just provide a treatment?

The propaganda on this is strong. Illogical.

Re: A Bit Harsh ? - Arkansas governor signs bill allowing medical workers to refuse treatment to LGBTQ patients
Over 40 years ago I had a part time job running a major hospital on the weekends. I was the Administrator from 5 PM on Friday until 8 AM on Monday. Perfect job while I was in grad school since I got paid while I studied all weekend long.

We had beepers to contact each other during our shifts. The head nurse was a British guy named David, a super nice fellow.

On Sat. afternoon I beeped him about some issue, but strangely he did not reply.

I ran into him later and asked what he was doing.

He said he was assisting a doctor doing an abortion. The Head Nurse of a major hospital?

I knew that the hospital did abortions. At the time I bought the idea that they were just removing a mass of tissue when the woman's health was threatened.

David told me the story:

The mistress of a very wealthy guy in New York City got pregnant on purpose. She then presented herself pregnant to him and demanded that he divorce his wife and marry her.

He refused.

This conflict went on for months until she told him she would kill his baby if he did not comply.

He again refused.

She searched the entire USA to find a doctor that would do an elective abortion at 8 months of pregnancy.

She found one in El Paso, TX at our hospital.

The OB/GYN nursing staff, who assisted in abortions daily, WALKED OUT.

David got drafted to help.

My opinion on abortion was changed forever.

The issue these days is performing gender reassignment surgery on CHILDREN who should NOT be able to make such decisions.

I am all for the med personnel being able to refuse to participate in such mutilations.

OP, how about a little sympathy for the doctors and nurses who are faced with awful decisions?

It's not about denying sick people the medical treatments they need, it's about not performing genital mutilation and hormone treatments on toddlers because the lesbian mom wishes she had a daughter.
