If it's living, take a mask that is showing evidence of this, place it in a UV device to kill all bacterial and virsus (I bought one from Amazon February of last year), and see if it still looks the same or if it ceases.

If it stops, then it's something living. If it doesn't, then it might be something such as fiber and static reactions.

I see dozens of mask discarded on roads and sidewalks, animals probably spreading these worms somehow.

When I was 15 one of my friends had these 'sea monkeys' as a Xmas gift

She had to put them in water and they miraculously grew into these weird little creatures that were visible and swam around

This was my first thought when I read about this issue with masks and swabs

The ' sea monkeys came in a sealed packet and they needed to be in water for them to start the process which would render them 'alive'

Oh I shudder to think if this is in any way possibble with the masks and swabs......
