Anonymous Coward User ID: 80207906 United States 04/25/2021 09:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Oddly I've no such vanity in vehicles as some you have encountered OP. Quoting: Louis in Richmond I drove a thirty-five year old jeep that caught fire and burned to the ground in the middle of an intersection. The fire department could not reach me until too late because of the International bike race held in Richmond a few years ago had over 45 miles of streets blocked. You're talking to a fellow who went six months without washing his car. I really should take better car of the thing, outside of maintenance. I had an '89 Lebaron GTS catch fire on me. Worst thing I ever did was put it out. It was nothing but problems thereafter. 6 months is nothing. i just got rid of a rust bucket silverado to pick up a honda gas sipper instead and i never washed that truck in 4 years. swept sunflower seeds off the floor with a broom. paint faded all the way to bare metal. totally disgusting heap of crap |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 80039226 United States 04/25/2021 09:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Great post OP. I'm seeing it bigly here in Houston, Texas. Quoting: bootobin Nine times out of ten, when some driver has really pissed me off, I can't even make eye cobtact with them because they have the super dark windows. Coincidence? I think not. It's getting rough out there. Well, Texas is hot. I would probably tint the hell out of my glass so the air conditioner could keep up. I am seeing more full tinted windshields as well and that is really dangerous at night. Dark windows or surfaces absorb heat and makes it super hot inside a car. |

Duncan the destroyer User ID: 80069838 United States 04/25/2021 09:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I think you are on to something. It might also have something to do with how narcissistic people have become thanks to social media. Everyone in a rush to out-do one another and post their pics on IG. But the harder they all try to be unique & different the more they all look the same. To me at least. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 44883436 Correct. No person who is mature needs to "show-off" to anyone. All the talent shows on TV, the selfie culture, tattoos, youtube content creators, and so forth are manifestations of narcissism. All of that coincides with the increase in trends in the auto styling observed by the OP. What if you have items bolted on to to your rig like bigger tires, lockers, winch bumper with a winch? I put them on to serve a function, to you I'm showing off, I need these things to be self sufficient. Duncan the destroyer |

Terror, or shows fewest scratches and looks better in snow? Red cars get the most speeding tickets and in the most accidents. It's an aggressive color. that's a myth. no its not. people who select red cars tend to speed. that's also a myth. It's a matter of proportion. There are more black and silver or gray cars sold, therefore those colors are more likely to be involved in "incidents." Soundman User ID: 40546062 United States 04/25/2021 10:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You have always had "car people" that are passionate about the car he or she drives and you also have people who look at a car as just a metal box with wheels that gets you to work and back. Some folks may be car folks and some folks may as an example spend all day working in the yard planting grass and flowers to have that perfect manicured lawn. We all have different passions. My yard is used simply to park all of my cars. I do think you see cycles over the years such as the muscle car era of the late 60's to 70's, Its back now but for a limited time, With the Dodge 700+ hp Hellcat, the 800+ hp Demon The Ford Cobras. Yes the name of these cars alone may be troubling for some but many people are now buying them and the car lots are empty! Lets face it, a cute VW beetle with a flower in the built in flower vase and those fake eye lashes over the head lights is just not going to appeal to the average red blooded American car guy. That car guy wants something loud, fast jacked up with big wheels that make people look and has some kinda monster in its name. The last few years has been a fun time if you are a car guy / girl but these times are very limited just like the 60's and 70's example Honda will be all electric by 2040 [link to www.theverge.com (secure)] Volvo says it will be full electric by 2030 so times are a changing. we even now have a Mustang electric car so better get those big gas V8's while you can as its going away soon. With a $7,500 electric car tax credit and the rise in gas $$ we all she what will happen next. Anyone remember 1978 to 1983 ish? Not a good time to be a car guy. History repeats... I do believe the loud, fast, fun, gas engine is on borrowed time as our Government has decided its fate... I do wonder how apartment / condo dwellers will plug in all of those electric cars at night but thats a topic for another thread... I do agree and think people are looking for a release, reaching out for something "fun and perhaps aggressive" Its been a "behind the mask year" I think it feels good to do a burn out every once and a while... Just feels "good" to have a need for speed, something a Prius owner will never understand but I bet that Prius owner has a beautiful manicured lawn... people are gonna people and we all are different and put effort into many things. I have an open mind and in general try to appreciate anyones passion even if I do not understand that passion. Music, art, cars whatever... I don't understand the new trend of these young teen 4x4 truck guys that lower the rear and jack up the front, makes zero sense to me but once one starts not being able to at least appreciate someones passion about something we don't understand thats the day we officially become old.
