So a few things in play here.
US investors dumping stocks. Because International partners (or enemies) will have huge holdings, and we steal their shit when they fail.
Nukes are very expensive. But what does the US have to trade and what does the US want?
And who knows what, and how?

Next question should be 'Why would they want to do that?' My best guess: they want the US stock manipulation team (plunge protection team) to refresh their coffers, and get into the crypto market too.
